I have about a 20 mice commute to work. I drove the 79 in today and it seems to be getting hot. I included a picture of the temp gauge which is about the hottest it got. I thought I smelled anti freeze at one point, and I wonder if it is getting too hot, or is it normal?

That's normal.
Look closely for any coolant leaking which would cause that smell.

Is the solid white range the "normal " range?

yes that's a normal temp actually it looks better than mine when driving in town. on highway mines a little higher than where yours is. mine is also a 79. as for the coolant smell look closely at the crossover coolant tubes for signs of a really small leak those are the tubes that come out from center of engine and into the heads. also look close at radiator cap and overflow tank and the hose that runs in between. from asking allot of questions and reading everything I can those seem to be the most likely places. I have the same coolant smell on mine and I am still trying to track it down

I feel better about it now. It was running just before the solid white area until now, my commute is twice as long now. So it is really running cool then, even in this South Texas heat at 100 degrees. That is good news. Thank you for your help.

I wish mine would run that cool! :heat:

Ditto on the coolant crossover tubes...they will seep a little, and you'll be able to smell it. For sure check your coolant level, and look for small leaks around the radiator hoses, where the clamps are. :good:

Yes :good:
I would expert your fan to be cutting in around this temp or more

I do hear my fan coming on, that seems to work well. I should prolly change all the hoses in the near future, they still have the wire clamps on them and look like they have been there a while.
