Sometimes I feel like such an *****! Turns out I was using the indented timing mark and not the raised mark with the arrow pointing to it. Apparently, for people like me, Honda should make the mark glow like neon so they don't pick the wrong mark. At least I knew enough to try it out by hand before trying to start it up!
I put it on the correct mark and installed the belt and re-gaped the valve clearance. When I turned it over a couple of times, it had no stoppage so it and will be ready to try out. Yea!!
Before I put the fairing on I'm going to check the steering head bearings and replace the voltage regulator with a regulator I purchased from Digi-Key. I wish I didn't have to work all weekend! I could have had this all wrapped up and done before Monday.

I realized I never replied to how my valve repairs went. Once I got it timed correctly and adjusted the valves, I put it all together and have ridden almost 5000 miles so far this summer. I'm always getting over 42 mpg with it. I haven't gone on a ironbutt run yet but plan on it in the next week, or so. I have gone one a trip to my sisters in Jefferson City, MO. (435 miles away)and had monkey butt pretty bad. I put ballistic gel under the seat from Impact Gel and made a wood bead seat cover so I shouldn't have so much pain on the ride. It is better than before. I'm pretty happy with the bike but wish it had more leg room as I'm pretty tall (6'3") and would like to stretch out more. Another odd thing, according to my older gps(2005k model)my speedometer is actually slow so at 60 I'm actually doing 65 mph. I don't think I've ever had that happen with any other vehicle before and I don't know how to fix it other than a new speedometer.
I want to also thank everyone for the input on the repair!!

Cool, glad your enjoying the ride.

About the leg room, I'm 6'2 and know what you mean.

On my '83, I replaced the seat adjuster allen bolts with regular hex head bolts which allowed the seat to go back a bit more. I don't know if it's the same on your '82.

I am 6'2" and with cruising pegs on the Rats Nest found it comfortable, I do wear calf length riding boots that allow me to rest my calves on the pegs giving a fully stretched out option that I find comfortable.

Highway pegs help a lot on the long rides and moving the seat to the rear as far as you can. I also moved my bars forward a little which also seemed to help my seating position. Put a +5 sticker on the speedometer and ride.

I'm still looking for a wing with 12" wheels for ya Bill. :good: :smilie_happy:

I have a travelcade after market seat that I moved it as far back as I could without the front tab pulling out. It looks kind of ugly having the gap between the fake tank and the seat but whatever it takes for more room. I do have the footboards for highway pegs so I'm planning on tipping them so I can comfortably rest my legs on them. I'm planning on getting boots(I always wear a helmet and armored or leather jacket)for better protection so I might as well get calve high ones. 12" rims, lol. I had a '79 750k that was FAR taller than the wing, which I liked, but the wing is much smoother. I don't think I'll put the sticker on the speedo for the correct speed. I just have to keep telling myself that I'm going 5mph faster. One good thing, I'm actually getting even better mpgs due the the incorrect speed. :good:
