Well I basically want to know if this will hurt the engine or cause it to shift poorly. I have a noise that comes and goes and just want to see if this will change it at all, if it does I will know more about the noise.

It's a light knock that comes on at about 55mph under light load. I can throttle up hard and it goes away or drop down and it goes away. Thinking maybe piston slap or wrist pin, does not feel or sound like bottom end.

High pitched or low pitched knock?
As far as Lucas(or similar stuff), I'm wid Dan...don't do it. It will gum up the clutches, and they'll stick. If you think it is oil related, use a heavier weight oil for a tank, and see if it makes ANY difference in the noise.
My '81 has a noise in it at cruize speed that has annoyed me from day one....at first, it sounded like a bottom end(rods/crank) knock, but I have since decided it is not....or it would have broken by now. I think it is more of a combo of exhaust growl, and possibly chain noise.

I wonder if you could just put more of a load on the cylinder by dissconecting one plug at a time and listening for the sound, I would think when you disconect the spark beside the affected cylinder it would make a louder noise, or by discomecting the spark on the affected cylinder would change the pitch/sound but that would be at 55MPH so a little more difficult to do..
I agree to "NO" on the lucas. It is a good oil adative but horible on clutch plates.

in one case I know of ... one 1100 had 1000 head gaskits on it ....because the piston metal ring on head gasket stuck out it eventually leak antifreeze ever so slightly into clylinder ... this cylinder made noise like piston slap or wrist pin .... when finally broke down ... there was hard fried antifreeze in combustion chamber ....it never missed run strong ... and the clylinder was always completely stean cleaned an I thing washed of oil .. witch think causes piston slap in lite loads and certain rpm all in the motors easiest to do areas ... just what I think ... ive never reused the motor yet to tell if that right or not

Well, I figured it was time to change the oil, I have done 3,000 mile in the last couple months and it is over due. So I changed the oil, used Rotella 15w40 and we will see how it does in the morning.

Not sure what it will do for a motorcycle but I couldn't believe what it did for my old truck.
When I bought it last year it had been sitting for almost 15 years and quickly developed a serious knock once the engine warmed up. I went out and bought a replacement motor, when my buddy suggested I use Lucas first two quarts of oil - the whole bottle of Lucas and then topped up with oil. The knock was noticeably quieter for the rest of the season. When i fired her up this summer it was completely gone and i have put a ton of miles on it. Now I have a new (used) motor that's sitting in the shed and i doubt I will ever need it.

Apart from Viagra I don't know anything that works this well..!!
