Yeah, that is one where I got myself oriented and could see the weld pool. If I can get a good start I'm OK.

Still trying to get the trigger switch together. Would like to put a proper snap action switch that I can trust. What is on there is someones attempt to place the wire end close so the trigger pushs them together
 
This simple work light can help illuminate your work area so it's easier to find the seam. Once you get used to welding you'll just flip your helmet down and start laying a bead.

I can't help you with the torch...we were spoiled because my dad always had brand new prototypes. I like Tweco brand torches but not sure if they work on that welder.

Try cheap spray on cooking oil as your anti splatter spray and tip protector. All good comments about light, wire burn back and new tips.
