have some slip ons turn downs over the stock tailpipes, looks real good

after a scoot noticed the slip on mount lug for the bolt was broken off on one side

so slipped off the slip on and saw the tailpipe for the first time, shot and starts at about the halfway point, dunno if i should just leave it or cut the back half off?

that would deal with the rusted thru area of the original pipe and leave plenty to put the slip-ons back

i can pix it but just to clear up the original tailpipe (the straight pipe part) is all there, just rotted thru from about halfway to the back, ~ 5"

muffler section (forward of the rear straight pipe) looks ok

original exhaust look like this

I don't quite understand, the muffler in that pic looks fine.

I have fixed one muffler by welding metal plate over it.
They typically rust out where the main header pipe meets the chromed shell but yours sounds to be rusted out after the larger chrome shell (?)
If that's the case then if you cut the tail section off your also cutting out a baffle, the exhaust will be quite a bit louder.

got that pix off ebay just to show what i got and tried to describe
