Have an 80` model 13K and a broken clutch cable, was looking at things while the tank was off and noticed the ignitor goo dippings, bike runs perfect so no trouble there and I know on the 80-81 models it is considered normal but is there anything I should do like potting them? can I or should I get that resistor they added to prevent this?
Just want to take care of it while its apart.
Also the flasher is a 2 prong type, I noticed in the harness going to the flasher it has a green wire dangling as if there for a 3 prong, was a 3 prong optional and what would it be for?
Sorry..I should have put this in tech.
Thanks for your help.

Green wire is for earth which would be the other terminal in a 3 pin flasher.

Thanks Tony, I planned on getting an electronic flasher so I can run LED`s.apparently it doesn't need connected..I heard there are 2 prong and 3 prong flashers on the GL1100`s I suppose I have the 2 prong but didnt plan on seeing a 3rd wire just hanging there.
Things got worse, reason my cable broke was the lever bolt broke first and caused the cable to wear so now looking for a clutch handle bolt that no one seems to stock :head bang: Looks like it`s ebay and another few days.

Which bolt you looking for? I prolly have it around here.
Thanks Dan,
Clutch handle pivot bolt, the one that fits through the clutch handle, any other time I wouldn't mind driving out to ya but my diesel pump is slinging fuel all over at freeway speeds but only drips around town..I was just about to tear into the diesel when my clutch cable broke, good thing or I would have been down with both.
I Found one at partzilla for 8 and change shipped, have to wait another week with shipping, still making calls around town hoping to find one local.

When mine started to drip I covered the goo with J.B.weld. I jb'd it covering all the goo.
I thought I heard of that, wonder if loctite marine 2 part epoxy would have similar results, haven't got any JB around.

Well let me know. Was thinking of a longer test ride on Sunday, could run it to you.
That is if it's the right one.
If you wanna ride out that would be great, I`ll pay for your gas. tight in the calipers it measures 7.96MM across the shoulder , shoulder is 15.60MM long and overall length should be about 22.45 MM but it is broken so not sure.

Hey Z man, any epoxy will work to re seal your spark units, i have used JB and loctite, it would be good to sand the flat side on the back of the units to give the epoxy a clean area to seal to. none of mine have leaked on me and i still run the 80/81 coils and it get's a little warm here in phoenix. good luck with that inj pump

It's amazing how they don't seem to heal themselves! :smilie_happy:

If you are going to use a non load flasher for your LEDs it will be a 3 wire and require the earth. Don't be confused by electronic load sensing flasher cans Jeff as they will flash fast with LEDs as well

I have a 1980 and about 3 years it began to miss and backfire. I too found the black goo problem. Bought a set of ignighters off eBay. Problem disappeared. Last fall the bike started to act up again, more goo on the floor. I now have a 3rd set of ignighters ready to go on with a set of coils off a 1500. Hope it works out. The original ignighters lasted about 20k the second set went about 5k.

I had the goo a few years ago on 80 81 coils it ran fine. switched to 82 coils WITH balist resitors its been fine since. I refilled the old now there spares haven't needed them yet. Its been 3 or 4 years

Looks like a set of 82-83 coils are in my future, I find it harder now to take off into the desert or up the coast knowing this problem, don't understand why it took Honda 2 years to correct and why they weren't recalled, maybe they don't recall motorcycles.
I will be repotting them and keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks.
