After getting my Wing on the road in May my wife asked me if I'd like a new helmet for my birthday which is coming up in a few days. Guess I'm hard to buy for at this point in my life as she says I have everything. Anyway on Saturday we went to our Honda/Harley dealership and bought a nice moderately priced full face helmet. It's an HJC which I've never heard of but it fit well. It has a couple of holes near the top which can be opened and closed. These holes allow air to flow inside the helmet and pursumably help keep things cool. The visor is really nice and has several click stops which work well. My Wing has a full wind shield and I'm 6' 1" so I tend to look just over the top. With my old helmet which has no inlets on it's top as well as a smoother visor I get no wind noise sitting normally. With this new helmet I get so much wind noise that it is driving my crazy. It's an irregular drone that comes on right at 45 MPH. I assume that the turbulance coming off the top of the wind shield is hitting the little cooling inlets and perhaps the visor and causing this noise. I used it 3 times and I just can't get used to it, so today I went back to my old helmet and all was quiet again. I'll have to try and return this helmet and see if they have one that has a smoother top. I'm still amazed that such a small shape can cause this much noise. Oh well.

I have the same problem with my bell full face and chin guard.
I find if I open the visor its much quieter and completely quiet when fully open.

IM curious what brand your old helmet is?

I also have the JHC full face complete with the wind noise which I have learned to put up with. My problem is that I get no air inside at all and it makes no difference whether the vents are open or closed. I have shortened the windshield about 8" and still only get air by raising the face shield and standing up on the foot pegs.
Yesterday I had a dental appointment requiring a 70 mile roundtrip ride/drive and it was a beautiful day. Yes, to keep from making the dentist work with a sweaty head, it was a boring ride in the cage :head bang:
It would be great if someone could recommend a full face with no wind noise and still have air movement. Do they even make such a thing?

I imagine the noise is from air going around/over the face shield, rather than air going into the vents. The vents on most helmets are so small, it would be hard to get that much air in them to make a wind noise. The actual shape of the helmet top makes a big difference, too.
I only have a 3/4 helmet(Cyber brand). I bought a face shield for it a couple of years ago so I could ride in colder weather without my cheeks freezing, but....the dang wind noise and turbulence with the shield down is unbelievable! If I raise the shield up a couple of clicks, the noise AND turbulence is greatly reduced. :builder:

I have a full face Nolan. The whole front if it flips up so it is more like a normal open faced helmet.. I ride behind a windshield so i keep it flipped up unless I have bad weather. Came with the bike. I have 5 other helmets, used for dirt riding some full face some open faced mostly just getting older like me. :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Its a Beiffe, Italian, still appear to be in business. I took my helmet back to the store today and the manager looked at it and mentioned that the visor on it was for an atv or snowmobile. The visor has more of abridge at the top and sticks out further. He installed a motorcycle visor on the helmet which is much flatter. I tried this and it helped with the wind noise quite alot. Its still not as quite as my old helmet but it might be good enough. The person at the store said to bring it back if I didn't get used to it.
Ill give it a couple more days.

My full helmet is a very old HJC, no problems with noise though. Maybe tape over those holes(my old HJC has them too, but still no noise problem). It's just too hot here for a full helmet year round.

I am using these Airhead silicon spacers that claim to keep you cooler and reduce helmet hair. BobW off GoldwingFacts pointed me in the direction of this Aussie company and their products.

I don't know how well in real heat they will work but so far in our cooler weather atm I am hardly sweating in my helmet. In August I intend to give it a thorough wrk out in the desert heat and will report back my findings

I also have an HJC but mine is modular. I have the same wind noise unless I raise the visor. The noise is coming from the visor, not the air vents. During the winter months I seal the visor at the top and that eliminates the noise. the other option is to go to the taller windshield, that will direct the air flow high enough to clear the helmet visor. I tried the tall windshield and what I don't like about it is that it blocks too much air making summer ridding a bit uncomfortable.

There was a thread on a sport bike forum about the wind noise with HJC helmets, Many recommended Scorpion helmets for a mid priced alternative that had a high end fit and feel.

I used to be into , if it won't do over 100 mph in a 1/4 what good is it... and I wore a full face helmet all the time , I have had several , after I got my Goldwing , and started riding down near the speed limit , ( sometimes ) I bought me and the Mrs. a couple of open face helmets from JC Whitney , I couldn't believe how Light they were , they are like wearing a Ball Cap , compaired to the old full face.... but , back to the subject , NOW I wear the open face , with amber sun glasses , ( dark depresses me ) and behind ( well Kinda ) I'm 6' 6" and I stick up a little above the windshield too . but I like the feel a lot more , and not much noise . :music:
