Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a very tired '87 Interstate that is going to be a restoration project. It is complete and does run (actually sounds quite good for the mileage), but needs the usual stator, fork seals, caliper rebuild, seat cover, plus a lot of cleaning. So, I decided to do a complete teardown and restore as time permits. I've had 2 1200's before so I know the bike pretty well and can do the work myself, and I've already picked up a few tips from reading the forums here. Our riding season is short here in Vermont, and summers are very busy, so not sure if I will get this done for this riding season, but would rather take the time to do it right and have a better finished product. Glad to join the group, I'll add occasional progress reports if so desired.

Welcome from way out west. If time is no problem it is best to take your time, think I only put in 4-8 hours a week on mine, it gave me the chance to double think things and probably saved me from making mistakes.
Good luck with your resto.

Might want to do the minimum and ride this season. Then do the big stuff over the winter. Welcome to the fun. Yes we encourage progress reports. They can be a big help to you and folks learning.

Gee's yes!
I've been around the Goldwings for over 10 years now, read the forums, and I'm still learning.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome from Oz and good luck with your project. Buy a good quality AGM battery ( mine is a cheap $60 ebay almost 2 years old) and a smart charger and you would be able to get some riding in before doing the charging circuit. Especially if you reduce the electrical load with LEDs and or an HID (35w) headlamp bulb replacement.
