Hi Folks,

I haven't been on the site in a while as I've been working on other bikes. I just picked up a new GL project a few weeks ago which brought me back here looking for parts and info. It's a very neglected 83 GL1100. It has a lot of options and some stuff is in OK shape, though the engine is seriously trashed. It's seized with what appears to be a LOT of corrosion inside the crankcase. The #1 cylinder wall is majorly cracked and the connecting rod is bent over about 80 degrees inside the case. I have no idea what happened to this thing, but wow! I'm going to keep working on getting the cases apart to see if anything is usable inside and go from there. I may need to source a new block.

I still have my 81 - love it!

I'd say you should start looking for another motor. Maybe a nice 1200. Been a lot happening here. You may want to spend some time reading up on the single carbs and 1200 builds. Welcome back.

Welcome back, nice project you have..I too would just get another motor then you could monkey around with that one at your leisure..This just showed up and not too far a road trip,There is an engine in there says in the ad he`ll sell parts separately..Don't know how he will do that since it is an auction.

yep that baby is trashed clutch cover set up..on rear case grab that ... 83 trans secondary primary reduction unit....out put shaft needs grabed ...rear ignition unit...water pump ..oil pump... clutch...stator lots of stuff to save to me

Interesting idea with the 1200 engine - didn't think of that.

I'll likely pull as much off of the block as I can and get rid of the waste. Thanks for that eBay link - I actually know someone with the same name as that seller on another forum.

I have wondered if the 83 transmission would drop into a 1000. A big job, but if I ever have a 1000 apart again I would love to find a little lower gearing.
