I'm looking at replacing the original stereo with a newer one but not sure what my option are. Does the stereo have to be a marine or another type of outdoor stereo or does an actual car stereo work? Also the speakers sound terrible so would like to find something better for those also. Again does any speaker work or does it have to be some type of outdoor speaker. My bike is always parked outdoors. Only indoors during the winter month. I attached a pic of the stereo i have now. Any help would be great.

Kinda figured that the stereo wasn't stock. But wasn't sure. So you mentioned proper wiring. What should i be looking for as for wiring goes? Also i was thinking about a little amp just wasn't sure if the stator on the 82 would produce enough power for that along with everything else.

Those look like 2 way speakers which should sound pretty decent.
I'd replace the radio first or test the speakers on another radio.
Most $100-$150 radios today will have presets for types of music like rock, R&B, classical etc which shape the audio frequency's like an equalizer. One of those presets will actually make even cheap one way speakers sound pretty good.

Polarity to the speakers is VERY important.
Check that also before buying anything.

Thanks for the advise guys. As for rear speakers, bike doesn't have any right now but would love to put some in eventually. But as Dan mentioned, i think i will start with the stereo first. So standered stereo hookups will work, great. The only other thing i'm trying to find but having a hell of a time finding is the enclosed portion were the stereo mounts. Meaning the flip up screen that hides the stereo from water and what not. Don't know the actual name of it. Found one for my boat years ago but can't seem to find one now for the bike.

I have a Cycle Sounds box on mine, too, but it takes much smaller speakers. When I bought the set-up(from a fellow CGW member  ) it had an 8-track system in it. I used that for a while, then I found a JBL stereo at an estate sale for $5....WITH the flip-up cover to protect the stereo. I also replaced the speakers with some Audiovox mylar coned ones. The speakers, being fairly small, aren't the best for quality, but they are definitely better than nothing. :Egyptian:
I'm pretty sure those covers are still out there. A boat dealer/shop should be able to get them if not in stock, as well as any Car Audio place, I would think. Heck, ya might even find one at Wally World... :beg:

I have a Vetter faring with the cycle sound hook up. I chose to use a Sony Marine radio that is water proof from West Marine with built in amp, AM/FM/CD with a built in cable for an iPod plus it has an aux input for any other MP3 player. It also came with a remote that I mounted on my tank (and use all of the time!) I use the FM radio and iPod all of the time. CD skipped on bumps. The speakers are from Best Buy and they are plastic. Been working great for 3 years until this week, the right speaker is making noise.

I had to make mine due to a low budget, I haven't worked with fiberglass much but I have with wood, I made all these boxes then wrapped it in imitation leather from the fabric store for cheap, glued it all together and put some ribbon around it, you can see I didn't put enough glue but I fixed that, boxes sound great, got the receiver from a nisson car [$20 junk yard], speakers new from walmart, I was amazed at the quality of the sound, very nice..I love those in the photo's above ..I would much rather have that set up but for now mine works good enough..I'm Mr. el Cheapo I also like that I can plug in my mp3 player into the aux. outlet and hear all my tunes..View attachment 1

Why Yes Why yes it is, I just placed some wooden grounds to it [plates] so I could screw in the boxes solid.. grounds were also wrapped in leather before I fastened them..Pretty simple way to do it..

When I made the box I glued the back of the box really well and made sure the piece on the back went inside the box and nailed down into it for strength before I wrapped it, I screwed in two long 3" drywall type screws with my screwgun to establish the location of the holes while placing it where I wanted it, drilled out a larger hole, placed in 2 long bolts into the fairing thru the box, put a round piece of plywood in the inside as a solid backing for the bolt to go thru on each bolt and put a lock washer and nut on it..Wife took camera to SA with her..Sorry..no photo's
