Howdy all. Just got an 83 Aspencade. Looking for a wiring diagram, cause something is draining the battery when the key is off, and I gotta find it and fix it.

Greetings from the Sunshine State.

Live long and prosper. God bless you.

Yes welcome to the forums!

Now are you sure your charging system, your stator specifically is working? If your bike hasn't had the three wire conversion(easy fix) which eliminates the factory plug that fails and kills the stator, your going to want to correct this immediately before it does.

Oooh, interesting! I have no idea. How do I tell? Is the conversion documented here somewhere?

We have it somewhere, but I can describe it: There are three yellow wires under the left battery cover. There you'll find a plastic plug that the three yellow stator wires connect through, if the plug is gone and the three wires patched together(plug missing) the conversion has been made. Check it out and let us know.

Welcome to the fun of oldwings. Does your bike have a modern digital radio? If so the presets circuit may be your power drain.

Thanks; I pulled the radio/CB unit and the cassette player, and the drain did not go away. Good idea though; maybe there is more than one battery drain?!?

What about that stator, did you check the yellow wires?

The three yellow wires are not patched together; they are connected separately to three more yellow wires via 3 solderless spade lugs. This suggests the factory connector failed at some point. I'd say the conversion has not been done, either. Yeah?

No this is good! So there is no plug, but the wires are separate but connected to each other correct?. No plastic Male/female plug means the conversion has been done! Now the hard part...finding that short. I made the conversion in what I'm sure was days before that plastic plug failed and shorted out my stator. I have pics of it here somewhere I'll try to find them and posts them.
