Just picked up a 1981 GL1100, I may need some help brining it back to life. I am looking forward to this one :yahoo:

That looks like one decent bike - I hope it is an easy a project to get up and running. Where in England are you? there are a few members in the UK and one of us might be near enough to give some spanner time and help.

Welcome to classic - I like the frame as well is it painted while or aluminum ?

Hi all, thank you for the kind words. The frame is actually grey, the previous owner was inspired by the GL1800. I have had a closer look at it today. It needs a new battery, complete front and rear brake rebuild (lines, pistons, pads, master cylinders, maybe even new discs), and a rear suspension rebuild. The bike was refurbed in 2003 then just left there, so it is going to need am lot of careful checking over. Some of the refurb looks a bit ropey, I think the wheels are spray painted silver and some things like the footpeg hangers have genuine 1980s rust. I have put the dead battery on charge, if there is any life in it we'll see if it starts tomorrow (I seen it running last week, so I know it at least runs).
I live near Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Cheers for now,
Paddy

Welcome to the CGW Forums, Paddymcc!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

I'm liking the color scheme, too! Very different, and a sweet looking ride to start with! :good:

Well, since my last post I have tried to get it running but I think a starter motor solenoid problem has developed and there is no action. However, never mind, I will turn my attention to the brakes and suspension first so that when I do get it running, I will actually be able to stop. No point in running into the neighbours' cars in the parking lot!

you can start a new thread on your bike about getting it going .....its esay to figure the starting out for sure with jumper cables to good gound on bike and the possitive to the starter bolt being careful...if testing the starter only turn ignition off at kill switch
