Odd front brake on 83 interstate

Alright you geniuses. IT WORKED! Holy Moses. Both brakes feel just right!

MAN .. gotta tell you, THAT one is not in the shop manual.

So, went on a little ride. Out of 30 stops, one, just after I stopped at the store for about 10 minutes was soft again (hand brake). It pumped right up the next pull.

thoughts .. ignore it, or maybe clamp that puppy again tonight?

My front lever gets mooshy every now and then, too, on just one application. Next time, it's fine. Possibly the pads are being pushed back into the calipers a little more on turns, and that explains the extra slop in the lever. That's my story, and I'm stickin wid it.... :yes:

That mush that shows up is that tiny bit of air that gets trapped at the top of the cylinder above the bleeder screw. You can compress the air into the fluid with the hold down method, but that doesn't get rid of the air!

I suggest the other methods of actually getting rid of all of the air. My front brakes have not gone mushy in over 20K miles and the 6+ years I have had the bike.
 
Think I'm going to have to agree with Gerry. They seem to have a soft pull now and then ... and then pump up hard instantly. So, I MAY pull the calipers and clamp them to try to drive that damn air bubble out.

More likely, I say it's good enough and just keep enjoying the ride.
 
Dan .. yeah .. I think it's possible the master cylinder seals let some fluid slip by, and then expand with pressure and stop the leak-by. Given the shop I had my bike at were horrible at this, I did order a master cylinder kit . MAY replace those seals.
 
YEAH .. I was thinking the same thing. SOO ... I ordered a master cylinder seal kit. It's been sitting on my workbench for a few weeks. Maybe I'll break down and rebuild the the master cylinder, pull the dang caliper, compress the pistons and get it over with.

Or, I might motor down to the Skylark lounge and have a beer instead.
