I have been having carb issues with the 1200 so I haven't been riding it too much. Today I wanted to ride it around the block and it fired right up, even after sitting for 4 weeks without even being started. Oh yeah!!!!

Got half way down my street and cough, cough, sputter, splat! Nothing! I pushed it home and tested the battery... dead - 7 volts. Ok, so I put it on the charger and give it a charge. A few hours later and I am reading 14 volts, good - ready to go back in. I put it back in the bike again it fires right up. Oh yeah! I don't know why but I put the meter on the battery to test it... 10 volts and that was after about 2 minutes of idling in the garage. THAT ISN'T GOOD!

Long story short...

I am not reading 50 volts AC on any of the wires. One wire is 47, one wire is 26, and the 3rd wire is 20. :crying:

I think when the motor comes out this time, I will be saving up some money and talking to Paul again, so this one might just get shoved into the corner of the garage for a while and wait.

Right now, I need to go for a ride and forget about this day! :head bang:

Brian, once again I feel for you and know the distress you are going through. I knew that 1200 would cause you nothing but stress and heartache. I am willing to help you out and take it off your hands knowing how much pain it is causing you! :swoon:

:smilie_happy: :Egyptian:

(Just trying to help a brother out!) :hihihi:

Thanks Gerry for that kind and sincere offer but regrettably I must decline. Even with all the distress and heartache that I am suffering now, I just can't help but imagine what the torque from that motor will be like with a C5 installed in it. So with that in mind, I will trudge through it and overcome. :music:

stator sheesh ...im with you brian

Yeah Joe, sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.

This time I am changing everything with brand new parts...

Yeah there is more than just a stator at fault here. That is why I am thinking I am changing the regulator and anything in the system that appears to be suspect.

Sorry to hear that, Brian - what a pisser! A 1200 Standard with a C5 should be sweet! Tell the wife to keep the rest of the house, but the garage is yours!! :smilie_happy:

That is out agreement, but she has this thing about wanting to get into a cool car during the HOT summer months... who-da thunk it!

Bummer on the stator. If you have room for a carport to shade wifey's car they aren't too expensive.

This is the scariest part of long road trips on a wing for me. An external alternator isn't too pretty looking, but being able to quickly replace it would be a big plus. I had a friend who had one dump on him in Sturgis ten or fifteen years ago. It cost him $1300 plus a motel for a few days because they didn't have one there. He sold the bike and bought a 1500. He was not mechanically minded.
