I have been told, never tried it, that if you pull the fuse for the head light, a fully charged battery will last about 300 miles. I think I would pull every fuse that wasn't needed and buy a charger and see how far I could get until the battery needed charging again. The bad part would be if the charge gave up while you were in the plains of Kansas or in Death Valley.

I don't know about 300 miles, but I had the stator fail on a 750K a few years ago and stopped at W/M and bought a new battery, pulled the fuses, and it got me home easily, about 100 miles. I forget, did you use a used stator when you replaced it or did you buy a new one?

Hey, that reminds me of where my 86 broke down...

About 5 miles west of Medicine Lodge Kansas on Hwy 160.

I used one from a 1000 motor I had sitting in the shop. This time I am going with brand new and probably changing the rectifier also.

Sounds like a good plan. Too bad it happened right at the beginning of great riding weather.

Yeah Piper, but that is where is it nice to have more than one to ride!
