Bicycling is a great way to get exercise and I fully support anybody that wants to get out there and ride. Ride safe and make sure you wear a helmet.

About your bike…. Great starter bike, for sure. I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but Schwinn isn’t the name brand it used to be. In fact, for awhile, they weren’t much better than your run of the mill department store bicycle shaped objects. I understand in recent years, they have stepped up and tried to regain a little bit more of a bike shop brand reputation, but I can neither confirm, nor deny that they accomplished this.

What kind of riding do you plan to do? The hybrid platform is a good starter, but you’ll want to lose the tractor seat if you’re going to do any kind of miles. There’s a lot of dead weight on that bike, too. That little suspension seat post and the adjustable stem and the suspension fork are all pretty weighty items. I do like the fact it has 32 spoke wheels, but I kind of chuckled at the way they tried to make the wheels look like the low spoke count wheels all the uber cool guys run..

What’s the drive train? 9 speed triple I assume, but what brand components?

It looks bullet proof and shouldn’t give you any issues. My advice is to ride it like you stole it. Get a good pace going so that your heart rate is elevated and maintain it. Don’t make the mistake of doing like most newbies and pedal, pedal, coast, pedal, pedal coast. Forget that coasting stuff and just pedal. You’ll get whipped into shape in no time. Do miles!! Forget the around the block crap- ride somewhere. Pick a destination and RIDE. Go get coffee, or run some errands by bike, but RIDE!

Oh yeah…. Don’t forget to be prepared to fix a flat. Carry a spare tube and a few tools. Have a patch kit for just in case. Go to your local bike shop, they will help hook you up with all that stuff and probably show you how to do basic little things.

Most of all, have fun!! You’ll find out real quick that seat sucks. Even a good seat hurts your butt for awhile, but that thing on your bike….. That’s not meant to be ridden more than around the block. Trust me on this and again, ask at your local bike shop.

This is going to be fun!!! I’m working with a brand new rider right now, teaching him the ropes and he just grins ear to ear; can’t get enough of it!

Good luck and if you have questions or need any help, don’t be afraid to hit me up!!

You could go to your local fitness center and ride the stationary bicycle in any weather. Then you could ride 15 miles out and 15 miles back ( up hill both ways even in a blinding snow strome).

Fish taco's are good for me, I guess it's ok once in a while, pretty cool setup there Dan I got quite a laugh when I saw that, we went out and purchased another bike today for my daughter Amanda[15] she had a one gear beach bike before so now we got her a Schwinn like mine so she can keep up with Dad, as far as the quality of the bike, I'd say it is a really good product, I had a Schwinn ten speed in high school and I rode it all over San Antonio, that's all we did as young guys is ride, I counted 7 gears on the rear and three on the front sprocket. 21 speed...As far as my riding style, just neighbor riding for now, and we plan on going to some trails or the parks,... Just as long as I ride the the thing to get this sugar count down where it should be..I have my BP totally good now at 110/68 it's been that way for a few weeks now..Now I'm building muscle again...

We had a softserve ice cream truck with cones that were so good man, that came thru our neighborhood, one of my friends broke his arm falling off the back of his truck up the hill, we thought it was great fun to hitch a ride on the back of his truck without him knowing..but yeh he fell off and broke it..

Ride on Beave .... I got all the faith in the world in you man . I have had too many motor cycle crashes , and 4 back surgeries , a Pace Maker and 2 Stints... sooo..... no Bicycle riding for me . But..I would if I could . Ride an extra mile for me when you get a chance my friend. . . . Rock On ! :music:

I love to ride, but just like with the Goldwing, I have to have a destination. I also hate out and backs routes, so will usually try to route out a loop. I don't usually just ride aimlessly, though.

One thing I will warn you about bike paths.... They are often more dangerous than streets. People get lulled into a false sense of security on bike paths and do stupid stuff.

Stationary bikes suck the life out of you. Nothing more boring than sitting in one place pedaling. Like I said.... destination.

When I was 14, I got my first bicycle. It was a reverse 3 wheeler. And I could have it as long as I sold the ice cream out of the front. Prior to that I just had to push the cart. Yah and I also had a paper route before that. :fiddle: :fiddle: :fiddle: :fiddle:
Cycling is real good exersise. I used to do a lot of that when I was receing motocross. kept the fat off. Also used to jog. Didn't eat all the junk I do now. :head bang: :head bang: :lazy:

Well I'm at 234 from 270 so I'm getting a good start, unfortunately the diabete's made me lost that weight but now I'm fighting back.. I'm still losing too....Just too much good stuff finally caught up with me..our whole family is eating better now... this white bike we got today for Amanda

yeap mark you got my bike ....love the forward pedals and the lazyboy seating .....when you get tired you can put stand down and go to sleep :lazy:in the seat ....

thats great beav ....there more good to extract out of something seemingly bad ...if one is determin :yahoo:

nice bike littlebeaver but like mark said the new schwinns are not the same as the schwinns we grew up with. my last new schwinn was a '93 serra. mountian bikes are not very efficent on the road so look on craigs list for a world tourist or something like it when you get back in the groove. the light weight framed schwinns from the late '70's and into the '80's are some of the best. look on the head tube, most have where the bike was made on the head tube.
or maybe you would like something like this .. https://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/bik/2908628954.html
