So it looks like Monday may be the first nice day to ride to work. (Most of my riding is done commuting) Bike is still in winter storage and I'll have no opportunity to get to the local dealership to buy my yearly oil filter. I have about 2,000 miles on last year's filter. My oil always maintains a golden hue even after an entire season's riding. Do I...
A: change just the oil and run the filter for a second season. (about another 2,000 miles)
B: Ride on last year's oil and filter for a week.
C: Wait until I get a filter before the first ride of the year.
Thanx, Dave

Up to you. I'm still riding on last years oil and filter. Good ride days have been a bit sparse so far here.

I'd ride it until you get about 3000 miles on the oil and filter.
Agreed, that is what I do.

Well, I appreciate the input. I've been in the same routine for so long that I need a nudge to give myself permission to get out of my rut. Every year I change oil & filter before first startup. With the routine I've grooved, I've never had to do any real repairs. (insert sound of knocking on wood here) I'll ride this week and do pre-season maintenance next weekend. Thanx, Dave

I had a Dodge van leaked a quart every thousand miles so I never changed it. Figured why bother changing the filter either , heck it was getting a fresh supply of oil afterall. Got 330,000 miles out of it when the timing chain slipped. Donated it.

Fill up the oil and check the gas... I had a 68 Toronado that I pretty much did the same thing to.
