Joel, if your gonna be a Moderator, your gonna need high speed! :builder:

Can still be a Mod on dialup, just takes alittle longer.
Even on a reasonably fast connection all those pics take a bit to download.

Joel is doing a good job and has been a big help on the forums.

Man she looks GOOD!I love the soft bags and the seat.Mine was also kinda rough wenn I picked her up,but after going through her(almost everything has been repaired or replaced)I've come to love the old girl and would NEVER sell!

Where did you get those leather saddlebags for your GL1100? They look large enough to completely fill the chrome support racks. They give it more of a cruiser look.

Thanks Arnold, I can bring home a weeks worth of groceries on this old girl. I got the bags locally at a place called Leather Headquarters.

omega man, that's one good looking wing you have there. the only change i would make would be to put some 1200 wing engine guards on it
Thank you, I'm not done yet, if come across some I just might.

Thanks. I saw the Leather Headquarters website, but they don't list their products. Do you know whether they constructed the bags, or do the bags have a separate brand name and source?

I'll look for a label tomorrow, if none I'll drop by and see if they are available. They are a plastic product that looks like leather. Very durable but pricey, about $250 if I remember and that was like $80 off. They even have a loop sewn under the bottom of the bag that I used small hose clamps to secure them to the crash bar strut. They don't look good on many bikes because of the shear size. I know they have more because a Harley guy laid some on his bike to see how they looked about a month ago while I was there.

:hi: Great pics. :good:

One might wonder how I got these pics on such a beautiful day? It was only about 39F. If Mayor Oscar Goodman had caught me he probably would have kicked me in the nutz. :smilie_happy:

I tried to split this topic but it didn't work...

Here are the bags like mine, the plain ones are $280, the fancier ones are $300.

Thanks for the closeup photos. They should be easy to recognize when I see them again. The hard bags on my 81 Interstate are 20 inches long, 14 inches tall, and 8 inches thick (except for the rear which is thicker). I was thinking I could get the soft bag look by glueing leather scraps to the surface, or painting the bags with black wrinkle paint, then glueing silver conchos on top of that. Might make more sense just to buy the bags, although yours seem to have no brand name.

I was really considering taking a stock trunk and covering it like you mentioned, but once you really get what it would take...well, as one can see I just bought a new trunk. :smilie_happy:
