I've been riding since I was 10.My Old Man rode, and died riding.Rode with people from every walk of life.Met some very interesting characters, and some way out there people.I ride alone now.Just me and my wife.We take off and just follow the handle bars.Just go wherever the wind blows us.We just moved up in the North Ga mountains.Beautiful place, the leaves changing to fall colors. The Dragons tail. But it amazes me that alot of the people we run into now are trying to be someone they aren't.We had a fuel pump go out in the middle of Nathahala Gorge last fall.Out of probally 100 bikes going by,one car stopped to offer help.Today on the way into town we stopped to help a biker, and the guy's he was riding with never stopped. They kept on trucking. What happened to the Brotherhood?Never leave a man behind.I commend you guys,I havent seen a request for help or info go unanswered, and would be proud to ride with any of you.

Big attraction areas like "Tail of the drago" draw a lot of posers. Most are just idiots with bikes. I agree we have a great bunch here that I too would be proud to ride with. If I just stop to stretch around here I have always had at least three check on me everytime.

I too would be proud to ride with any one or all of you guys here, no matter WHAT you ride.

I have a strong sense of camaraderie with just about everyone I meet.
There have been many times I've stopped to help someone out, most times it's appreciated but there have been at least a couple times the person almost expected me to help. Those times make me wonder why I do it but I feel we are a brotherhood here just sharing the same planet so I keep helping. Helping is what keeps me happy feeling like I still have some worth in the world.

Willingness to help is why I started this forum and it's an honor knowing each and everyone here.

same here , I was raised in the Mountains of East Tennessee, we was Poor as Dirt, and most folks we knew was poor too . and everybody helped everybody . you never talked about anybody , because we was all in the same boat . and you helped your friends because it might be You Next time . and I feel the same way about the folks in this group . when I got my old Goldwing , I didn't know a thing about Goldwings , I had never even Rode a Goldwing before I got this one. and these guys helped me out , on how to change the Timing belts , and rebuild the Carbs... it's nice to know where you can go , when you really need help or advice from someone who really knows what they are talking about. I think your in good company here .

I tried helping a guy riding a Harley once, he had some friends there already, I had a bike trailer two blocks from there, I was on my bike, I walked up and ask if I could help because I had a bike trailer right down the street and I offered to take the bike wherever they needed, he and his buddies just stared at me with an aggressive look, and didn't say anything but naw...as they were working on something and didn't appreciate me even stopping...I just shook my head and went on my marry way.....they were 30ish...I was 50ish...not that it matters....I think most people in cages are afraid of bikers...Gangs have everyone afraid...Another reason I sold my Nomad, look too much like a Harley...I don't want to be labeled...A badass..We have all been tough in our lives I'm sure.....I am old school too.... I know a lot of Harley guy's down here in SA, but I choose not to ride with them..Who know's what enemies they have........I bet I'm not alone....

not realy a bunch of people to ride with here its so lightly populated....but i like it that way me and the wife have a blast riding around the windy roads of southern indiana....i have fun bu my self too

Most HD's I see going down the road in these parts are in groups of 3-5 or more. The times I've stopped to shake it off, the only ones who have asked if I'm ok were riding alone on a Harley. I waived them off, but it left a good feeling. Everyone else just races on by. But then, the only emergency I've ever had on either of my Wings was a tire loosing air one time, and a headlight fuse after dark another time.

Most outlaws don't cruise around sport'n patches daily in California, so I wouldn't know one way or the other, but I do try to see if they need help when I see a bike stopped on the side of the road.

Call me selfish....it makes me feel good to think I helped.
It also makes me feel good when somebody riding by offers help, even if I'm just digging out my camera.

Idont care who you what you ride f your on the side of the road im going to see if your ok . My wife who is disabled stopped to ask a female rider if she was ok the other day she didnt have to but she did the lady said she was ok and help was on the way

we was Poor as Dirt,

You had DIRT?!?.....show-off.... :cheeky:
:hihihi:

I wuz raised on a farm out in da boonies, too, where neighbors were inclined to help each other, without expecting payment, other than maybe a dozen eggs, or some fresh meat on the next kill.

Today, in the big city, we hardly know, or even speak to our neighbors, much less someone sitting on the side of the road. I've slowed down a few times to see if a rider on the side needed a hand, and have been waved off every time so far. Matter of fact, that's about the only time I ever get a wave from another rider....no-one around here even waves in passing, like we did back in the day..... :hi:

I get so many waves around here it's almost annoying sometimes. Then there's these guys that go by patting on top of their helmet. What does that mean?

I did not know that.... thanks for that information...I never get waves, I guess I should stop waving like Sarah Palen at them... :smilie_happy:

Patting on the helmet is warning you a cop is ahead, beats any wave.

I thought that's what it must be the first couple time I saw it, but then thought maybe I was just making that up because I really didn't know. Then I started thinking maybe they were trying to make fun of my sissy helmet, since they all seemed to have full faced helmets.

The first time I learned that my 8 year old son and I were on a group ride with a couple other "newbies".
The one guy leading patted his helmet when some bikes passed going the other way. Curious, I asked him why when we stopped.
All the other riders were there listening so now everyone knew what it meant.

He commented later how funny it was with him riding at the rear and watching as our group of 10 all patted our helmet ( including the passengers ) after passing a cop :smilie_happy:
