I've had spongy front brakes on my 78 since I got it this summer. Tried bleeding, didn't help so I ordered new lines. I just got done replacing them (and date code says they were the originals), and I found that I cannot bleed my left front caliper via the bleeder. Even with the bleeder completely removed and pressure on the lever, no fluid comes out of the port. Doesn't appear to be the lines, since I can get fluid out of the banjo bolt at the caliper.

Is there anything reasonably easy I can do to fix this?

You can remove the bleed valve and use a paper clip(or smaller) to push any debris clear. I cant see it hurting anything, real simple device, worse case is that it clogges again but I think whatever is pushed will dissolve in due time.

Sounds like it might be time to rebuild it...

I should have added that if it is clogged now, there is probably a lot of other clogging agents (gunk) inside the caliper waiting to clog it again so rebuilding it will clean that gunk out of the caliper.

+1

The circuits inside the brake are most likely plugged. Once you rebuild, change fluid every two years as recommended by most manufacturers.
