about a year ago i saw a video on youtube made by randakk , dealing with the removal and replacement of the rotor/ stator on the GL engine. he inserted little plastic straws in the rotor to hold the rollers back, in an attempt to fit the thing easier. there is no need to stick plastic things anywhere to get this thing on. his video here:

This is a very straight forward thing to do. no special tools required ( although randakk did tell me in some correspondence that such a tool exists, but not available to ordinary folk) :beg:
So, i made my own little video , showing just how easy it is to remove/replace this part. handy to know if you should ever need to replace the starter clutch rollers/springs etc.my video is here:

I do admit that my approach to this ( and randakk ) was sarcastic and i did ridicule him a bit on NGW. this was met with some displeasure from some members there , but in my view , he got it wrong. big time.
just the other day randakk must have spotted my video and my criticism of him. took a while. he took exception to being ridiculed
( fair enough , and i have since apologized) and started a thread on NGW on this subject.
strangely, just as things were getting warmed up, randakk made a post ( with some debatable points) and the thread was promptly locked , denying all and sundry from further debate. a common theme there, ( i have had threads of my own locked as well. )
so, i've had a bit of a laugh and had some odd comments from NGW folk, but the fact remains. please, please, please, dont put plastic straws in the rotor when doing that job. a foolish thing to do for several reasons, foremost, is the chance of leaving a bit of plastic in the roller area. Maurice.
