I changed my plugs last week, and starting seems to be suffering. The plugs were all factory gapped at 0.035 so I installed them as is, however the manual states 0.031-0.35. The symptom is a slow start "duh.....duh....duh..duh.duh duh duh vroom." What do you think about re-gapping at 0.031, do you think this might help?

I guess it could but doesn't seem likely.
Putting them at 31 would confirm it.

How do your plug boots look?
I had a cracked one jumping spark to ground.
Maybe moving them around caused something like this?
It's possible.

When you have them out unscrew the boots and have a look at the pin that stabs the wire center. Could have some corrosion there or in the wire weakening the spark.
Cut a 1/4 inch off the wire to expose a fresh center core before you screw them back in.
