I have a 1982 GL1100 wing, I started pouring in the radiator fluid, and it was pouring out just like a waterfall, appered to come from behind the right side timing belt/and in front of thre right side head???? any ideas?? :head bang:

Were you pouring it directly into the radiator, or into the overflow bottle? Has any work been done on the engine - especially around the thermostat/fan switch area?

That area is where the radiator connects to the pump. Check the obvious stuff first. Look at the hose on the bottom of the radiator, it is in the area you described. Check to see that the hose is fully connected, that the clamps are good and tight, and that there are no tears in the hose. Odds are you may just need a new hose or a better connection at that point. Doesn't sound like anything serious to me.

It has no overflow tank...so yes, right into the radiator

. I put the overflow tank back on, why cant I put it directly into the radiator??do I only put it in the overflow???as quick as I pour it in , its comming out? looked at the waterpump, hoses,it all seems to be dry?? its pouring out by the exaust on the front right bank?? Ive never had this problem before...hope nothing is cracked

sheesh this dont sound good ....overflow tank means nothing here ...in fact it takes it and the hose to radiator off the table ....hmmmmmmm..is this a new bike to you ..need more info

it dose seem to point to head though ...maybe a head replacement is all it is ...witch aint much really ..sounds like it is a lot ...but not on oldwing

Fill the radiator first. You cannot really fill the radiator through the over flow tank.

I can't imagine that the coolant would be coming out from the head with no power from the pump though. Could be a head gasket maybe? Is there any way you could get some video of the area while water is being ran into the radiator? Also, I would not dump anymore coolant into the radiator at all, just a wast. Run a hose into the top of the radiator, turn the water on and take a video so we can get a better idea of what is going on there. If we can solve the problem you can then just drain the block and fill with fresh coolant then.

With no overflow tank installed is it possible that the water/coolant is flowing out the overflow pipe as you are filling the radiator?

The over flow pipe is on the top left of the radiator right by the filler though, I believe.

The radiator filler neck and overflow is on the top right, as you sit on the bike. If there's no coolant escaping from the thermostat housing or crossover tubes, or the radiator and hoses, you're looking at a gasket issue (head or front cover), or a crack (head, front cover, or block). Bronko's suggestion of a garden hose in the radiator to determine the exact source of the leak is a good place to start. Is there any coolant in the oil?

well guys..Thank you for the advise on the gas shortage to my carbs...ended up bein a plugged pump. Took the cap off, cleaned the inlet/outlet. fires up first push of the button...then of course the waterfall....ended up being a U SHAPE BREAK IN THE HEAD, between the timing belt, and the head, fluid was pourin out. not sure what would have punched the crack?? from the insude out?? broke it just enough to allow fluid to run out of the FRONT of the head. Good thing I have a spare motor...FULL of rust, but has a right side head

Could the coolant have frozen and cracked the head like that? Other than a casting defect, what could've caused that? Let us know what you find when you pull the head...
