I've had these wheel bearings now for months. Thought I would just pop them in.
What could be so hard about that? Well......not having done it before my learning curve got the better of me.
these are for 83 rims on my project bike. I started with the rear. that is as far as I got.
I tapped them in and then tried using all thread and some washers to try and get them in straight.
Well I ended up pounding them in with a dead blow hammer. Then realized the side with the rotor needed to go in further. I used the all thread method. But I tightened them too tight against the sleeve ( I did remember to put that in ) and now they don't spin.
I didn't feel them before I put them in but I reckon they didn't fell grainy. The rotor side feels a bit grainy compared to the other side now too - or it may be my imagination. I did hit it...and no doubt unevenly. They don't appear to be loose w/any movement though.
So how to I free them up a bit? And what is the proper procedure (should have found this out first)to install them?
In hindsight I should have slowed down....did some reading/investigation then proceeded. I don't follow my own advice sometimes. Doh!
I still need to do the front. GRrrrrrr!
