Got the rear all done - went smoooooothe.

the front? Well I am wondering if there is a spacer in there like the 83 rear. I had these bearings removed by a shop. They gave me a bag of parts and I was on my way.

No where to be had was/is a sleeve for the front like the back.

I would not have questioned it but noticed on one of my comstar rims there is a sleeve in the front.

no worries I pulled a sleeve out of one of those (i have extras!)to use if needed.

Q is: the inside of the 83 front is different than the earlier 80-82 rims - is the spacer needed or not?.

Parts fiche shows one. I am thinking the p.o. left it out when the bearings were installed (oem bearings) or the fiche is wrong and there wasn't one to begin with or the shop didn't give me the sleeve.

just trying to verify and not speculate

thanks

Safer to use a socket on the outer race only.

that thought did cross my mind.
also when using the old bearing, you can get it stuck in the wheel if it gets a little off center/straight. socket IS the best way to go if you don't have a set of bearing drivers

My factory service manual makes no mention of a sleeve between the front wheel bearings. That said. I'm still not sure.
