The 86A acted like the key was turned off, just cut out. It would crank, but only popped once in a while. 33 miles since the last fill-up, so plenty of gasoline. Checked the main fuse and the ignition fuse, both were fine. Went home and got the trailer, loaded up the beast and drug it home. Offloaded it and hit the starter button. It fired up and ran normal. I'll drain the gas tank and change the gas filter before I trust it anymore.

What else could it be?

Sounds like a loose wire maybe, you did say it as a rough road, I would check your connection everywhere from the kill switch and wiring to the ignition coils and module.

Very possibly the ignition pulse generator(s). They seem to be an issue on the 1200's. They work fine until they get warm or hot, then quit. Once cool, they work again.

check or better yet change the ignition and main fuse. sometimes when they go bad they will look good but when they get heated the fuse will separate and you have no power, once cooled down the fuse makes contact with itself and you've got power

I wouldn't doubt it.

I was riding mine once just cruising along minding my own business when it cut out completely. Pulled over, hit the start button, fired up and never did it again.

Probably right about the gremlin. maybe he was hanging off the key or stuck wedged in ignition contacts.

The shutdown repeated twice yesterday. Ride 4 miles and it quits; let it sit; and it starts back up and runs 4 miles before it quits. Coming back, I got to a block from the house before the third shutdown. :sensored:

Steve83 must be right; I ordered a set of pulse generators that will be here Tuesday. I'll fix it next week. :builder:

We're at the lake camping for the next two days, so no riding until Sunday. I'll be driving the pontoon there, but that will seem like driving a bus compared to riding the bike. :moped:
