Headed to Hambleton W.Va. Friday and coming back next day. About 600 miles round trip. The GL1200 seems to be running good. I put about 150 miles on it so far and am very pleased with how it handles. The one thing I really had to concentrate on was remembering to put my feet down when I came to a stop. It's a little different then riding the trike. My wife had visions of me being the little old guy on a tricycle that kept falling over when he stopped on the show 'Laugh In".

Anyway I'm going out Rt. 30 through Gettysburg all the way to Bedford Pa. then south on Rt. 220 through Cumberland Md. and Keyser W. Va. to Rt. 93 and into the hills. I'll take my time and enjoy the ride. Should take me about 7 hours.

If the bike makes this run with no problems then I'll know all the work put into it was worth it.

It isn't always about the trip but rather how you get there. Enjoy the ride.

Just be careful about listening to GPS "suggestions" while traveling through WV. Gerry and I were on one road and I could-a swore I heard banjoes!

Probably my cousins. :music2: :fiddle: :music2:

We rode through an area where there weren't many teeth on those folks, and they didn't look too keen on us riding through their stills! :smilie_happy:

Enjoy your ride! It looks great! :clapping:

...there weren't many teeth on those folks,

That's why it's called TOOTHpaste, not TEETHpaste....

OK Down and back 580 miles. Ran 150 miles on the Pa. turnpike averaging 75-80 mph smooth as silk. Handled the switch back curves great. Didn't use any oil and got around 40 mpg. So I guess it's ready to go anywhere.

Here's a pic parked at an overlook on top of a mountain looking south from where I started earlier this morning. I'm half way between Keyser and Scherr W. Va. on rt. 48 in the pic.

Color me jealous, nothing even close to as good as that in Texas. The best thing we have is the 3 twisted sisters in the hill country. Unfortunately, it doesn't come very close.

It's a fun ride and the scenery makes it even better. But flat land or mountains, every ride is fun.

About as good as it gets, gas mileage about the same as my 12's. :good: Looks like you got it down, nice work!

Thanks everyone. It feels good to know I've now got a Goldwing that will take me anywhere. So now what am I gonna do? Next project. The 1990 Aspy with the side car. In worse shape than the 1200 was. I love a challenge.

Generally if these old darlings will make it 30-40 miles you are good to go anywhere with them. Except for wear items like tires, brakes, hoses, belts, water pumps, head gaskets etc. Lol. It always amazes me that if you get one up and running well and no leaks etc. they do seem to make it about anywhere we want to go. Pretty good for anything of this age !
