When you had your clothes laid out, did you notice the smell was stronger on either pant leg???

If the fuel pump was leaking a bit from the weep hole, it would get on your right shoe AND your right lower pant leg.... a short ride and "sniff test" of your shoes and pants might locate the source a little easier... just start out with freshly laundered and "fabric softenered" clothes and then "scratch and sniff" for a location on the clothing that smells like gas...

My wife tells me all the time that I smell like gas, but she's not talking about unburnt fuel from my Wing! :smilie_happy:

We've been married 31 years in two days and it still amazes me that women seem to think their "exhaust" smells like a spring breeze! :cheeky:

It does seem strange that you go out for a ride with 60 MPH wind blasting around you and still smell like gas. My wing sometimes smells a little gassy after I pull it back in the garage, I think a float may stick a little. You might take a sheet of newspaper and slide it under the carbs and fuel filter and make sure it touches everything down there. Any small leak will be obvious. I assume that your nose does not pick up the smell? Any chance you had gas on your hands and grabbed the bars and now you pick it up when you touch them? I would have the better half step out to the garage and help me find the source. I have sympathy for your situation, my wife has a nose like to a champion blood hound.

Do you have stock exhaust or if so do you use exhaust tips?

I know if you extend the exhaust farther back it will draft up behind you.

Well, I am resigned to the fact that I have to pull the carbs yet again. Cleaned connector on coil, new plug wires, new resistor caps, and new plugs. Started the beast up and still rich on the right side. :head bang: :Awe: Put hand in the exhaust on left side, no smell. Put hand in exhaust on right side, strong gas smell. :headscratch: When the mercury hit 104 in the shade on the front porch, decided to quit the car port oven and enjoy the air conditioning with a glass of iced tea and sulk. :lol:

I had same problem,,1st time the gasket on the top of fuel pump was spraying gas on my pant leg...Th 2nd time one of the hose clamp was loose so snug it up and it stopped...

Yep.
No wonder it's running rich. Poor ignition can't fire the mixture.
