I decided to edit and post my dash cam video of riding up the dreaded driveway on the Rats Nest the other night. You can really hear that low rev death rattle as I take off on the hill with too much back brake to stop the rear wheel from spinning in the loose gravel/dirt. At one stage I went into a rut and had to back the bike back out of it and straighten up for another attempt. It is certainly easier to ride up without stopping, unfortunately at night I missed the right line and got stuck. Time to organise a machine to clean up the mess as hopefully we will be heading into the dry season (winter).

Hopefully I have copied the video in HD if not you can select the quality as it is playing back on YouTube. Excuse the French

That rattle does sound bad. Was the edit at the end where it looks like all went black, was RN tired & wanted a nap :)
Shook the dash cam(iPhone 5s ) loose and unplugged from the charge/usb lead and landed on the tank shelter in my lap. The rest of the ride was all black until I pulled up in the carport and picked up the phone to turn it off, at least it stayed there and I didn't have to walk down the driveway in the dark to find it.. :smilie_happy:

Wow that's a wicked driveway.
Reminds me of a time rode down a fairly long steep grade trail to business.

Then I had to make back up a long steep trail of chunk rock and gravel.

You haven't known fear until you try to motocross a fishtailing GL 1800 up all that.

Dang, sound like your in second gear, if that is first I would give the GL a break and find a dual sport,That would be a fun driveway on something with suspension and torque.

Maybe I should show a run in the Forester. Even it struggled with one of the ruts and its awd. you can hear in the video where I am dragging the back brake too hard and that caused some of the stalling and death rattles, at least the back wheel never broke traction and stepped sideways. I am always being told to get a dual sport or run more off road style tires on the bikes but I prefer my on road handling to not be compromised. It has been suggested that I park my bikes in the shed and just have a dirt bike to get from the shed ( which is off to the right in the beginning of the video) to the house and back :smilie_happy:

I hate to laff, but that's just too funny! :smilie_happy:  :hihihi:
It's gotta be frustrating when it's wet down there....yeeeesh! :Awe: You got some big ones, I'll give ya that! Never laid it over, either. :clapping:

Perhaps this might help?

Time to fill in the ruts Tony! :whip:
Too true Gerry!! I had run the loader over it early in the week and it was still a bit slick, one of the holes / ruts is from where I had to dig the bucket in to stop sliding down the hill as the tractor tires were all gummed up with clay.

Around here, we use oyster shells to fill in ruts and flatten roads. (Talking truckloads, not shovelfuls) As the shells break into smaller pieces, the shells breakup into calcium power which packs very nicely into clay soil leaving a surface that has great traction.

I will take all the new trailer loads that you can deliver to me Gerry!! :smilie_happy:
I think somewhere around the 100 tons should be a good start
I hope to have a mate with his new ( second hand $45k aud) 5 ton Komatsu excavator over to finally get the shape and drains in the DD where the should be. I would also like to get some heavy rock (2"-3" screened) into it as a substantial foundation and possibly provide spoon drains where needed. :beg:

I`m not being smart but why dont you own a tractor Tony?..Living with that situation I would have traded for or bought some kind of something that could grade , drag a grader , fill divots etc..
Coming from rural places here tractors are a part of everyday life, maybe not so much down under but Ford must have a foothold down there, they have some great machines.
They some kind of luxury , highly taxed, have to be registered?

As mentioned in post 13 Jeff
It ain't pretty and needs some more work but it slashes the grass ( when I fix the bottom bearing in the slasher) and sort of scrapes up the driveway. I have a 4 in 1 bucket off a bobcat that I will fit once I get another control valve for the bucket opening circuit..
