dear ron sorry you tried to figure out all the proper ? to discount the c5 .... but the advance and cam setup on 78-79 by honda was a complete joke and failure ...78 marks the yr honda really started getting stupid with cams carbs and epa crap ... c5 would be foolish to take into account for any of the dumb moves by honda.... it only got worse as the yrs went on in this regard...

your whole post is crap ? and paul dosnt have to defend his product over honda stupidity tech....you carefully just flat out discounting the best oldwing ignition out there ... sheesh you sould be ashamed of yourself...all those quotes are absolutely true 100% and the people that have been discounting the c5 are just people with an adgenda period ... and them and you are who sould be look at ... the c5 speaks for itself period

to answer your ? the c5 can match any advance curve haonda had...... its programable .....it not only turns on the ignition it shuts it off ...fires three times per piston ..and still uses less energy than a dyna ..witch only turns the coils on ...like dyna if you had points and stuff with you could take c5 off and put in points

Individual parts are available right now as I understand it. Could the C5 mask other problems? I suppose it's possible if it makes the bike run acceptably on mal adjusted carbs and the owner doesn't have the experience to notice.

Sorry I have been MIA lately. Every weekend I'm at a rally or event during the summer, plus for those watching us on FB or the website, there are plenty of new projects being designed (Yamaha Virago, AMC/Jeep straight 6 cyl, Yamaha XS750/850, Kawasaki/Suzuki 2 stroke triples, and a few more).

That being said, I try to get on here once a week to make sure I'm not missing much. I am attending the Illinois ride in so for those coming...you will get some big news and a special gift for everyone who attends.

I would like to answer a few questions about our ignitions. Many emails, phone calls, Facebook PM's, and forum questions...plenty of people wondering things we've discussed on here before. So lets take a second to review a few things:

Do I have to buy your C5 as a kit?

YES. Because we use special coils that are capable of producing 3 sparks per compression stroke (at all rpm) the saturation times are RPM specific. For reliability we never mix our parts with those of other manufacturers. We also have the most accurate, feature packed, and smallest microprocessor in the world that has been tested for over 20 years as a complete package.

What if I don't use resistor plugs or caps?

MAYBE the EMI created will damage or destroy the ignition. Maybe nothing happens. It's a dangerous game to play when the entire ignition module fits in the palm of your hand. By providing the 800 ohm per foot spiral wound leads, and recommending resistor plugs and caps, we intend on providing a safe environment for reliable operation of our electronics.

Where are the parts really made?

They really are made in the USA. Power Arc orders parts from several sources and try to use as many American made parts as possible. The circuit boards are from Colorado, some of the "pre-production" labor is done in Illinois, the coils are made by a company in Indiana, and the plug wires are from the East Coast (Moroso). We manufacture the adapters, gaskets, and water jetted parts for all kits right here in Wisconsin. Power Arc builds, pots, and tests ALL ignitions in Iowa before they are shipped to us for distribution.

Why only a 6 month warranty?

The cost of warranty replacement is hidden in the retail price of a product. Power Arc does not wish to offer a longer warranty that will ultimately increase the price of parts. In the two years I have operated C5 Performance, we've seen virtually every failure caused by improper installation or failure of supporting systems (such as voltage regulators, kill switches, or the use of battery chargers to operate the bike in the shop). We have seen virtually no failures due to components but will stand behind them when needed beyond the normal warranty period, or offer repair of the ignition. I have NEVER seen a coil fail.

Do you offer specific curves for various years?

NO. Manufacturer published curves were just a pipe dream. I have never tested a bike or car that matched what the maker "claimed" was the correct timing curve.
Because vehicles are built with transmissions and rear drives that allow for proper gearing based on power, weight, and intended use, there is no need.

The curves are slightly different based on the design (Ural versus CBX or Chevy V8 versus 2 stroke Kawasaki H2) but for the most part curves are similar except for rev limiter. I use a Moto Guzzi curve in my Ural and we use a CB750 curve in our Oldsmobile and Vette. I can elaborate further if anyone wants to know more.

If I call, will I really get you on the phone?

YES. My company phone goes directly to my cell. There is only one number. I answer the phone usually from 8 am until I go to bed (between midnight and 4am).
Wilcoy and several others have called with tech questions very late at night and I've answered. Sundays I unfortunately also get many calls. I am a one man operation and rarely miss a call. If so, its only because I was on the cycle, working on my lathe, or on the phone with someone already.

Enough chat for now. Please ask further questions. Thanks to all who run our system. We continue to grow and with Classics help we've started a Goldwing page on our website to direct more people to join this forum. I believe it's only fair since you all have supported us when other companies come and go. We are here to stay. Power Arc has been in business for well over 20 years and I intend to design more kits for another 20.

The GL1500 kit is done except for coil mounts by the way...just need a few more hours in the day.

Paul I really didn't mean for all the controversy when I started this thread, like I said I just thought the website was cool. I apologize.

~O~

No controversy, trust me. Every day I am swamped with great questions. I consider this a great thing because it shows that people are considering us. Heck two years ago when I started, when I got a phone call I was so excited I couldn't sleep. Now the phone rings all night and day.

When I first discovered Power Arc, I bought their products for my CB750. I had sold and installed dozens of Dyna ignitions at the dealership. What was unique to me, and still is to this day, is the ease of timing, the precision they've built into the module, the ability to multi spark, and for me it was very much because they are MADE IN AMERICA. Within 6 months I started C5 Performance and 3 months later I quit my full time career as store manager of Team Motorsports in Green Bay...after 22 years!

For some people that doesn't matter...its all about the price of our products. For some, having an ignition that doesn't become inaccurate when hot is something only a racer needs. And for others, the thought of 3 sparks per compression stroke is just a gimmick.

Anyone who owns a bike or car with this ignition feels a bit stronger about it.

One thing I can't thank you guys enough for is allowing the DISCUSSION. To this day I am not allowed to post about it on NGW. Last year 7866 posts were made specifically mentioning Dyna by name. We were mentioned 15 times and I was threatened and told if I mention my company one more time I'd be tossed out for good. I'm not looking for a fight, but isn't the purpose of a forum to discuss and share information with other friends? We can argue about pros and cons, and in the end learn more about what makes our bikes run better.

For those headed to the Illinois event, I can't wait to meet you. I'm excited to learn about single carb conversions in greater detail and share a few cold ones!

Well I believe free exchange of information about current and upcoming technologies by everyone is vital to keeping these bikes on the road.

I say FREE and have every intention of keeping it that way because I feel doing business and providing a living for our families is hard enough without having to pay out for advertising to a relatively small market, the Goldwing.
I also believe that honest businesses taking advantage of our free space will reciprocate in one way or another by supporting the forum.
Supporting the forum by monetary donation(s) for server costs OR by contributing other valuable information to others to help them save money or solve a problem.

Look.....we link a guy to a part he needs from an ebay seller.
Should Ebay or that guy that made a sale be required to pay for advertising?
How about georgefix? He's been endorsed many many times here and other forums.
To my knowledge he's not a paying sponsor on any forums.
How about Dyna, are they a paying sponsor?

How about every time a GL carb rebuilder or Randakk's products are sold because someone suggested it?
Do I go after a donation from members that sell these products and services that once made an account, posted a couple times, have not been on in months and some not for years and do not contribute anything though they continue to make sales?
No I do not.
And FYI, they have not ever donated.

It still amazes me that we are here, offering free of charge advertising to Goldwing parts and service vendors and there are only THREE, yes ONLY 3 vendors in that forum.

Well anyway, we do things here one way. NGW and other forums do it their way.
I like how we do things here.

Shoot if it was not for this forum - I would not have met someone in person from California named Dan. I would not have met several more from around the country. I would not have believed Joe's driveway and met his family.
I know I would not have a good ignition on my bike if I had not met Paul at Joe's.
I know I would not have had the courage to install an alternator on my bike without this forum.

So Thank You all for being part of my family.

Joe's driveway. I took many pictures of it but they never show how steep that thing is. Truly difficult to walk up. My car barely made it.
I still can't believe you guys rode your Wings to the campfire pit.

You call that thing you drove there a car, I thought it was a roller skate? :smilie_happy:

As far as getting the bikes up his driveway, some just clattered more than others, but they made it. I know my bike's primary would still clatter a little, but it would climb up there a lot better today than it did last year.

This thread is not intended to be an open invitation of attack on any other forum.
Keep it within the topic or this thread will be removed.

If that is directed at me, and the comment I made concerning Paul's car, I apologize as it was only meant as a sorry attempt at humor.
