Brian, the post I was referring to, joe has edited it already.

It's ok to pick on my Festiva. It gets me around until the Ferrari is out of the shop....yeah....the Ferrari.

So to stay on topic, if we are discussing the forum remaining "free", at least to the extent that content is not suppressed, I must say Classic is great.
I'll also state that at times, my posts probably appear to be blatant advertising for products I sell. This is a difficult thing for me to balance.

I've worked and managed two large successful dealerships for 25 years. I've raced and built dozens of vehicles. If something could be screwed up or melted into a ball, I've probably done it myself.

So if someone says "hey, I just bought a GL1000 with no spark. Should I buy Dodge Neon coils?".......how do I react to that?

We are a forum. A small group of people who love the same bikes. We have experience, opinions, and knowledge to help. You can't take your opinions totally out of the equation.
My answer would be "welcome to Classic. I also have a '76 barn find that's currently being worked on. In case you don't know, I design and sell Goldwing ignitions that do crazy cool things.
Give me a shout if you have questions."

I probably just crossed the line because these days I design ignition kits for a living. I should push the keyboard away and let someone else help him. I can only help him if he asked about carbs, tires, fork seals, or wiring issues....OOPS I can't help with that either because we sell wire connectors. I better not help him choose an exhaust because we sell Cone Engineering mufflers.

Hopefully we can give this guy what he needs. Help provide options, enlighten him on what is out there, and share our own experiences.
Shame on me if the person has an obvious carb issue and I try selling him an ignition. If that was the case I deserve what ever bad Karma comes my way.
But if we remember what a forum can do (positively) then it will continue to be valuable and grow. If we can't share openly it is no longer a forum.
I hope this forum stays just the way it is.

My two cents (for what it is worth which may not even be two cents?) I am glad to have such great access to the C5 ignition system and be able to talk and work through it with the designer! (Don't get that too often!) Sure beats buying off the shelf and hoping it works and then only being able to get support from a technician somewhere in the far east!

I also agree that as a forum we are willing to discuss anything (within reason) to help keep these bikes safely on the road. But again, to work through a brand new, state of the art ignition system with the Owner of the system is hands down cool!! (Feels like the guys that had the chance to work side by side with Craig Vetter back in the days when farings first came on the scene and new cool things happened to the motorcycle world that are still with us to this day!)
