I've read that the 1500 can feel like a wobbly pig at low speed maneuvering
I can assure you this is not true. :nea:

~O~

Seconded.

The reason I sold mine was for change, I drove mine for 8 years. I was going on long trips and wanted a bike for the job. Not saying the Valk couldn't do the trip, but it was more comfy on my GL1800. That Valk was powerful and held the road like a train ( after changing shocks and front springs ) you could not get a better bike for the size. After doing my trips, the Wing is for sale and I'm looking at getting a new old Valk . One thing I like about the Valk, it's eazy to work on compared to the Wing.

Buy it for yourself at any time but tell her its really a gift for her sake, so she can have a happier husband.

Why wait until next year to have a happier husband, right?

Since the forum is quiet and I somehow missed this thread, i'm opening it back up since it popped up on the random list.

Went on a great ride yesterday with a big group of old farts (about 10 bikes). Everything from two 1300 Concours, couple Harleys, couple Ducatis, a BMW adventure bike, and two Valkyries. I was once again struck by just how doggone capable the Valk is (this has been observed and written about since the beginning). It effortlessly competes with any modern machine on the road, whether on the straights or the curves. By far, the best motorcycle I have ever owned.

Here's my first point: We here are a bunch of GL fanatics. The Valk is a GL. anyone here who wrenches on a Goldwing could easily shift to a valkyrie and feel right at home.

Here's the second point - and it's a good one: The first generation Valk is getting older. There are still quite a few of them around and prices are coming down quickly. That disappoints me a little bit, but it's good for anyone who's looking for one.

I have seen low mile pristine condition Tourers in the high $3,000 range. There's not a better bang for your buck deal in the motorcycle world.

This sounds like an infomercial, I am sorry. But every time I take this motorcycle out, like yesterday's 250 mile trip, I am impressed all over again. I think a bunch of Road Warriors like you guys here would appreciate it as much as I do if you haven't tried it.

By the way, the Cobra 6 into 6 pipes shown on the example at the beginning of this look nice and sound nice. Until you crack that throttle or go on a long road trip. Then have a pocket full of Tylenol.

I had them on mine when I bought it, but after a while on road trips they get to be too much even with baffles. I was lucky enough to find a set of Vikings. Arguably the best pipe ever made for the Valkyrie.

Plus one on how great the Valkyries are. The only thing that I am starting to notice on the FB sites is that more first time Valk riders are having issues with cheap, poor maintained bikes. Remember these were a “Rolls Royce”/ performance motorcycle which means they were expensive. This is an issue with any old luxury or exotic which can make them expensive to repair. You have to be smart with your money but you also can’t afford to be stingy. A new Honda radiator is $1350 AUD and the Avon Cobra that I want for the rear is $350 AUD, yes it makes my $90 DS look attractive but I want my superior performance back that I had with my MC tyre.
Crazy numbers when you remember that when I bought Val she was only $5000 AUD.

IMHO, the Valk in two-tone paint is the most beautiful bike ever factory-built. And I don't really like chrome! Doesn't quite fit my riding needs and style, so the GL1800 will fill that spot for me. Still, when I see one I react like a gorgeous woman walked by. Except I don't get slapped when walking around her, checking her out closely in the parking lot.

Yah ain’t thwart the truth ...the two tones are great looking ...at first they seem loud looking ...but given a few moments they really come in focus ...as the last standard type wing with belt driven cams I consider them the last models of the oldwings ..
