I'm reviving a couple GL1000's. I've got one running now and the first thing I noticed is that the throttle twist keeps going and going and going....Just about need to grab another bite to find full throttle. Can anyone recommend a quicker turning throttle tube for this bike? Might be nice to add a throttle lock too.

That certainly isn't normal, I don't have a 1000 but a 1100. Let me ask a stupid question, are you sure the grip isn't turning on the throttle? The other thing is the throttle cables secure and connected properly?

I suspect the grip is spinning on the also because full throttle is only about 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.

Bingo.
I do have a GL 1000 and yours is jacked.
This is true.

To get full throttle on the rats nest I need to take a second bite of the throttle. With my Cbr1000s I just need to rock my wrist to get full throttle.

Yep, that's what I have. I probably overindulged with the going and going story  Lame attempt at humor. It does go until its uncomfortable for my wrist which is kind of jacked from dirt bikes. I would like something that responds quicker. The grip is not slipping, the cables do need to be adjusted still. I just got the rack back on the engine and got it running. Anybody know of a quick twist throttle kit with a throttle lock? Maybe a CBR twist would work though it might be hard to find?

I just twisted the grip on my 78 and it rotates between 1/4 & 1/3 turn from idle to full throttle. What comes to mind is:

(1) You have too much slack on the cables and need to adjust them.
(2) the grip is slipping on the sleeve and needs re-glued.
(3) Someone put a larger than normal bell crank on the carburetor (unlikely)

Ebay has several GL1000 throttle locks available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-GL1000-Go ... ww&vxp=mtr

It's always irritated me I couldn't get full throttle on my 1100 with a single twist. I'm sure grip isn't slipping. 1200 I worked on was same way and a few other old wings I've riden.

This is new to me, maybe it has to do with an individuals range of motion in their wrist.

In part I think it does. Also too short of pull would be adding throttle every time you hit a bump and wrist moved.

Ok,
I retract my previous comments I now see what you guys mean.
I don't pin my ole 1100 that often an suppose I had just gotten used to the old double bite W.O.T.
I went for 160 mile ride this afternoon and when circumstances allowed I pinned the throttle several times,
Sure enoungh, from the relaxed cruising throttle position you do have to get a second bite to go W,O,T,

Sorry guys,
I will now eat the crow that I should.

I was thinking about this, I know that is dangerous. With the throttle fully closed, how far must you turn it before the engine responds?

Even though the cables have not been adjusted yet the throttle reacts almost immediately. It really sounds good. I would just like to be able to grab full throttle just by rocking my wrist. The old bones hurt too much these days to bend my wrist so far.

I looked online and found a company named G2 ergonomics that makes a quick turn throttle tube that reduces the amount of rotation to go wide open.
