December 18th, 2003 I had a retirement ceremony and ended my career of active service in the United States Navy. On December 31st, 2003 I was transferred to the Fleet Reserve where I was considered to be a member of the “Inactive Naval Reserve.” At any time I guess I could have been recalled to Active Duty… yeah right - would they really want an old fat fart with MS… Anyway, today I received my final set of orders from the US Navy. I am now considered officially retired. Well actually the paperwork was signed February 1st, 2013.

Holy Crap! Seven months to get those orders and that certificate signed and sent to me in the mail. It’s not like I have been hard to find, I’ve been at the same address since my retirement ceremony!

once used up ... a burden ... im surprised it wasn't salvage title statis to reduce there obligation ... seriously for retired military to be a reason to be put on domestic terrorist list tells it all

Joe I get such a kick out of that mentality. For 20 years I was qualified in small arms, shotguns and M-16's. At one point I had 450 people working for me performing maintenance on a fleet of 38 test and evaluation aircraft, but today, if a cop sees me walking the street with a 1911 on my waist, they think I am one to be worried about.

7 months is pretty fast for the goverment  Congrats on retirement.

All things considered, I guess so. At least they didn't lose my retirement checks or my VA Claim 10 years ago.

Congrats! Continue to keep the surface-to-dive ratio equal to one, however!

Never, Never, Never jump from a plane that still has engines that are running and Never, ever, ever, ever go down in a ship...
I am sure our resident bubble-heads will have something to say, but I don't care. Those two ideas served me well through the years! :hi:

This is your resident BubbleHead speaking:

I have jumped out of airplanes and loved it! My surface to dive ratio (after 24 years) equaled 1.00 Expand your horizons, Brian......LMFAO

:clapping: from one khaki to another - thanks for your service :clapping:

I have the same 30 certificate hanging on my wall.

Be well.

This is what is so funny about the differances between services. I retired with 21 years in the ARMY. I did get my "Hip Pocket" orders :rtfm: that stated that if I were recalled to report to Umatilla Army Depot in Hermiston Oregon, 258 miles away and Ft Lewis Wa is 38 miles away. ?????s Almost 20 years (Jan 2014) and I have not been "Officially" anything. :headscratch:

Echo the Congrats. :good:
