Hey Joe, what could you do with this one?

why all the flames? I've seen this kind of engine in fighters amd there wasn't that much flame.

Impressive Gerry!

How is that engine started?
Dual air powered starters. (Noisy) Turbine starters are much quieter. The next size up engine doesn't use a starter, compressed air is piped directly into the cylinders like this old Fairbanks Morse engine. In this video, they have to blow down the engine first by opening blow down valves at the heads and hand cranking the engine (barring it over) so each piston will expel any fluid (water, fuel or oil) to prevent bending a rod. The blow off valves are closed and then air is pumped into the cylinders one by one in sequence until the engine starts.

Diesel burning hot. The pipes on that exhaust manifold are too short and the fuel pump must be set at maximum pressure. Diesels do run hot at the exhaust manifold. On boats, those manifolds MUST be water cooled manifolds.

wow, reading this thread jogged my memory back to when i was a lad. this engine was the talk of all us young petrol heads. and then it sank without a trace,. we were all totally convinced that oil companies/vehicle manufacturers, ( or other nameless evil doers ) had offered this fellow so much money for his ideas that he couldnt say no. he actually went on to be a HUGE property developer in Perth , this only confirmed our conspiracy theories.
this clip is a bit long, but toward the end you see the engine in action, on a lathe, showing the concept.

Way cool engine!! Too bad we didn't get more of it!

isn't that a gas burning engine like the one's in WW2 fighters?

Awesome little engine! I'm curious though...I see no spark or glow plugs, or a recognizable fuel system. Is it simply run on compressed air? No oiling or cooling system either. Still, a very cool model.

Edit - OK, I did a bit of research, and his engines are run on compressed air. Some very impressive fabrication and machining skills, and a LOT of patience required! :clapping:

I had fun checking out the other engines linked to that vid. Some interesting motors for sure. I thought the radial made with VW parts was cool.
