Hang on to the old pump, I believe they can be rebuilt. Maybe could sell it and recoup some costs.
Whoa.......reading my mind! I have two old pumps that I intended to try to get rebuilt in the future. Know of anybody rebuilding them? Seems easy enough and I like the bakelite impellers better than the metal ones!

 Thanx Beav, but I think I'll hang around local for a while yet....so the tow bill won't be so high. You DO remember my last little foray into wrenchin on this thing, don'tcha? :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

On a scale from 0-10 how difficult was this task to repair your water pump...Please list your procedures in a numbered fashion. example:
1. drain fluid
2. unscrew how many bolts and locations
3.pull front cover off,
4. and so on and so on like that can you do that please for me..please..thanks

Dangit! I dint notice this before, and the gasket set I got don't have this seal. Roady points it out as the "New Water Pump Seal"....

I looked at it in the engine, but it appeared to be in good condition..... :head bang:

Well.....the "new" water pump should come with a seal! It's just ignernt that it don't! :cheeky:

I'll bet the gasket set you bought was advertised as a "complete engine gasket set" too, wasn't it!

Wow thanks Ron, I never even saw this, my goodness....

Might not be aware of this because many of us simply go directly to the unread posts link but from the main index page as well as the Portal page I've done some regrouping of the forums to help find stuff easier.

The first section describes what this forum is all about.

Next is the General sections including FAQ's how to use the boards features, General discussions, New member forums etc.

Next is Repairs and Modifications which is basically our Tech section for discussions broken down into the various sub categories for project bikes, model specific questions, trikes and trailer etc, etc.

Next is Resources. I feel this is the most informative section we have.
It includes Tutorials broken down into the various sub forums, Member recommended suppliers and parts locator (also broken down into sub sections) and lastly the For Sale forum

The last forum is Misc.

If you take a look at the various Resource forums you'll see I've created posts inside as permanent homes for many of the tutorials. I believe there is at least one from you beav.

If anyone has suggestions for adding any of the discussions into the Resources forum don't hesitate to send me a PM. Those resources and your input as well as suggestions are what builds our forum.
All are welcome.

Are you sure you don't have a # 8 & # 10 in the exploded view?

Ron, I do have the two o-rings that fit onto the water pump itself. The seal Roady points out in his tutorial is actually on the OIL pump....and it seals the water pump shaft. It's not an o-ring seal..it's more of a metal clad seal...like a tailhousing seal on a transmission, if that helps describe it. There is an o-ring seal there, too, but I have that one....just not the metal clad seal....aaargh! :head bang:

It's prolly not shown on the front cover/water pump diagram because it is actually part of the oil pump. The gasket set I bought dint have this seal, or the shifter seal. I don't know what you would have to order to get EVERY dam seal needed, but it ain't what I got.
From what I have learned in doing this project, the only way for oil to drip from the weep hole on the front cover(which mine has been doing ever since I've had it) is for oil to get past this seal. From there oil would have to get thru the sealed rear bearing of the water pump, and then out thru the weep hole. The seals on my old water pump bearings were pretty much gone....completely swelled and loose. At best, they were only slowing the flow of oil thru them, but in no way stopping it. The two o-ring seals that fit onto the water pump keep oil that makes it past the bearings from getting into the coolant. When I got the old wp off, I blew air thru the weep hole on it, and oil blew right past the rear bearing...not sealed very well at all.
Now....I gotta wonder if I need to replace this seal on the oil pump, and if I do, where the he!! am I gunna get one? I really want to get this thing running again this weekend. I think I'm gunna take the old wp shaft, and fit it into the seal on the oil pump, and see how it fits. If it fits snug, and the seal will actually seal, Imma gunna run it. If it is loose, then I got no choice but to locate the seal somewhere. With MY luck, the only way I'll be able to get that seal is with a new oil pump attached to it.... :sensored:

Stay tuned for more adventures of poor poor pitiful me.... :crying:

Try checking with a bearing supply house in your area. They usually carry full line of seals and o-rings and if you can carry the parts with you they probably can match em up. Just a thought.

Thanx, but...in order to take this particular seal with me to match it up, I would have to remove it from the oil pump...which would make it un-usable...which it may be now anyway...I haven't checked yet. We do have a LARGE bearing supply place here locally, and they have always had whatever bearing I may need, but....I don't know about a seal like this. Since this is not part of a bearing assembly, nor does it really have anything to do with bearings, it would be a long shot. I'mma guna check the fit of the shaft first, and go from there. I'm thinking that, with the old wp shaft flopping from the bad bearings, that allowed the seal to not do it's job properly. With the new pump/bearings, it might work fine. Imma gunna get out there here in a minit, and get to it.. :builder:

Looks like it's available from cheapcycleparts.

There have been times when I took the part# from cheapcycleparts and went to the Honda store to get what I needed. If they don't have it, they usually will have it "next day" if ordered early enough and not a weekend. And it's faster and only 2-3 dollars more. :music:
