All stock 1980s MC horns suck :cheeky: . We all know this. The GW is a bit better but still in the suck zone. I'm considering hitting my local auto recycler and yanking a couple of car horns to make more noise. I might have $40 to drop on an air horn later but for now there are too many other things that cost money so I want to do it super cheap. Suggestions?

A buddy of mine bought a used police bike, they left the siren on it, now that got your attention, probably get you a ticket as well.

It might be worth the fine if it prevents some oncoming idjit from making a left turn in front of me. It only needs to get them to freeze for a few seconds while I go past. Turn it off before I do and they might not even guess it was coming from me. Hmmm.

You really got me thinking evil now. I want one that makes that "BLOOO" sound sirens do when they just hit them a short burst to get your attention. EVERYONE checks all around them when they hear that.

Bad Boy horn's on all my 1200's, from Harbor. $40 with 20% off coupon put's you out the door for less than $35. Obnoxious loud compared to stock, :hihihi: be sure to wire the included relay in, :good: or a melted wiring harness is in your future. :smilie_happy:

The Wolo or Stebil horn is great! They come with the relay needed. If I were to do junkyard, I would go find a Ford Taurus and take the double horns. You still need a relay and could more than likely take the relay right out of the relay panel under the hood.

Best $40 safety item that I have ever purchased :clapping:
Mounted underneath so that the ugly enemic stock horn on Val could be removed and the radiator looks a lot prettier with it gone.

70's Cadillac's had some loud horns. Could also check for bus horns. Old ahooga horn isn't especially loud but it's so uncommon it gets attention.

The Bad Boy horn on my GL 1100 was loud and got immediate attention.

The O.E.M. horns on my GL 1800 were very loud and got immediate attention.

The O.E.M. horns on my current GL 1000 and my wife's Toyota Corolla are really weak and easily ignored, I too may upgrade someday.

You will be fine if you had a relay already, but they draw a LOT of juice & can fry the wiring if not. :Doh2:

Without a relay wired to get good current flow to the horn, the horn will usually sound much weaker than it could, especially on an air horn since they need to spin up fast to produce that sound.

Denver is spot on about horns and relays. Horns should have a dedicated circuit and powered coming through a relay. If you look at the schematic you will see they use the same circuit for the horn as they do for the turn signals. There is no relay in stock wiring, I guess Honda didn't expect others to put high amperage horns on their bikes. Notice on the stock schematic that the horns have a 15 amp fuse. If you have high powered horns and using your turn signals at the same time you can easily blow that 15 amp fuse.

When I rewired mine I have a dedicated circuit for the horns and a relay. I have two horns called freeway blasters, I don't know what they draw and suppose I should find out since I'm using a 18 ga wire to power them.

I went to the junk yard to get a better horn. They were $3.50 each. That's low budget. One is from a Subaru and it's good for sure. Vast improvement over stock and small. But then I tried the pair from a Ford F150..... :mischief:

I'm tempted to install them both. The polite Subaru for friendly greeting toots and the big American pickup for "GET THE %$#& OUT OF MY WAY!" Or, "PLEASE DON'T PULL OUT IN FRONT OF ME!"
