What is that sound?

Could be a lot of causes, hot spots in cylinder or head, air/fuel mixture, low octane fuel, vacuum advance. The easiest first test is to remove the vacuum line from the #3 carb that goes to the vacuum advance on the rear of the engine. Cap off the carb vacuum port and plug up the vacuum line and test it, see if the noise goes away. If the noise is gone then the vacuum advance diaphragm is probably leaking or the ignition advance plates or stuck.

Try some good quality fuel or an additive. Raising the octane level normally gets rid if pinging ( pre ignition)

Can you put it on the centerstand and run it up to the same RPM in different gears? You might be able to pinpoint it. If it's a timing issue, it would need to be under a load, so it wouldn't make the noise.

Could it be the water pump just starting to make noise? Keep looking and asking. These gentlemen helped us a lot! :clapping: :music: :salute:

So far, the majority of guesses is that its my timing belts, since i dont know when the last time they were replaced, and your supost to replace them every 40k miles, i think its time. the sound is starting to get worse. and checking with the bike shop, its about $110 to get both of them.

belts are cheaper than that ....there numbers here somewhere to go by to get them ...hmmm well it is time to figure this thing out ...if its getting worst don't push it ....id first take timing covers off ...don't cost anything but blood ...and go through the process of checking timing and belt tension along with damage maybe ....take some pics and post what you see ....

And about 1 hours time... Wait! you have a naked so that cuts out about 15 minutes... About 45 minutes start to finish to change the belts yourself.

Thanks, i actually just ordered some good quality ones from a friends shop, cost me $45.07, they should be in tomorrow and my buddy, aka my mechanic, will be picking them up and helping me with that on Friday afternoon after i get home.
