This morning on the way to work I pulled up to a nice 75
bobber. I only had a moment to talk to the owner while at the light. He told me it was a 71(lol). O commented on the flat rear fender sticking straight out behind the rear wheel and he said it was custom made. That is about all the time we had to talk. The bike was white with sportster mufflers and had some green led light strips. Cool bike.

rumor time...I was told Honda built a prototype flat 6 back in 1969 or 1970, possibly test run in Canada.
As many of you know, the CB750 was an industry changing bike back in 1969 and in 1975 the GL1000 was Honda's answer to the Z1 (or so many people say).

Perhaps Honda was toying with a 6 cylinder boxer and shelved the idea, bringing the CB750 instead?
I have read at least one article that indicates the opposite. Apparently Honda was actually working on a twin, but was told by US dealers it had "better be a four cylinder", and Honda scrapped the twin, immediately starting on what became the CB750 four cylinder.

I'm not sure which story is correct, but your story of a 1971 made me think of this rumor.
