My Bike Models
1981 GL1100 Innerstate("The Turd")SOLD!!, 1996 GL1500 Innerstate
I think I'm done ridin for this season, so it's time to start figuring out what stuff to fix on the 'Wing.
1)Need to do the water pump/seals on the front end...I'm tired of the oil leak out of the weep hole.
2)Need to "fix" the threads on the shock mounts I screwed up.
3)Need to repair the break in the inner fairing panel. It's been broken since I bought it.
4)Need to re-do the mounting for my stereo.
5)Clean, clean, clean..... :builder:

So....what all does youse guys have to do?(or planned to do?) :ahem:

The hardest part for me is when to lay up the bike because we have year round riding.
(Life is a bitch lol )

Winter is the best time to do anything though because summer it's too damn hot in the garage!

I might put the original CB and radio in the fairing if all the spare parts I have will make a complete working system.

Also need to do fork seals but some seal expander might put that off a couple more years.

Right now I'm experimenting with the cams so all my spare cash and wrench time will be devoted to that.
I REALLY want to get rid of that damn knock!

I need to clean and polish, clean and polish, clean and polish. Now that the fork repair & seal seems to be holding up. I think the rear shocks could use some oil, too. I need a turn signal flasher and I'd like to put in a handful more LED's. I really want to switch out my driving lights to something that will draw less current, but the cost is holding me back. And I'd like to redo the padding in the seat. (someday)

I still need to pull the motor from Agnus and have a looksee at the scavenger pump, clutch, etc. I stoled that starter for the other bike, then stoled the tach cable. That really bugs me because that bike is just too good to get parted out.

I just need motivation to wrench on my time off from wrenching. (and money)

That is so true!

What I want to do if there is off season.

* Build more stiff lower H frame for the leaner sidecar (I think it's twisting.)
* Clutch rebuild
* Mounting larger alternator (I saw Dan's how-to in the forum)
* Better paint job for the faux tank and side covers

* Rebuild BSA engine properly (the last time I didn't clean out the sludge trap which if plugged may seize the main bearings)

Only had a couple things on the wing to do,mostly cosmetic but I am wacthing the cam change thread closely. ;)

I would however like to get my cb500 cafe project together, but it again has taken a back burner as I am in the process of moving.
With my bad back, wife in a wheel chair, oldest in the corps.its all on me and my 10 year old.
Two men and a truck are sounding better by the day,but moving the contents of my barn will be a long process.

you guys are lucky. my bikes hibernate in someone elses garage ( several someone elses garages ). by the time i make sure they are home, drive from my house to their house, bs with them for and hour or so then find out there is no power in the garage, the wind is blowing into the garage with the door open insted of from the rear of the garage, there is 4ft of snow in the yard and it hasn't snowed in weeks, and now the sun is going down so i can't see to get anything done. think i'll wait till spring to work on the bikes

Frist let me say hello to all.hop you all had a safe and great summer, been so busy this summer with the new job and working on the house.so this winter im hopping to get the rest of the things i wanted to do this summer.16"apehangers get the rims chromed, still not sure wate i want to do about pips yet.thinking about a set of rineharts.I did put a new seat on the old girl and copycat a trailer that one of are members built.planning on a big road trip next summer and need trailer to pull all the camping gear.will post some pics soon.

I need to winterize my '78 GL and the wife's LTD. Finish up the gas tank and seat mounts for the '79 GL, do a valve job on the '82 basket case then pull them both down for paint. Then I need to change the top end on my '69 Bonneville and get in one more cord of firewood.

:good: I used to have a '69 Bonnie! Sweet ride, too.

Big list for this winter....big dreams!!! (No cash!)

So this is the list that seems reasonable that I intend to do the following on the running bike:

1. rebuild the '82 front and rear calipers that came with the bike (frozen, I have '81's on right now)
2. replace the brake lines
3. rebuild front master cylinder (rear was done last year)
4. add a Mosfett voltage regulator (money permitting)
5. replace the battery with AGM (have to...not holding charge anymore)
6. cut rotors clean (maybe, if price is right at NAPA)
7. add LED brake light to trunk
8. repack mufflers (already have packing material)
9. add mirrors to the faring and remove the old ones from the handlebars

On the set I sent you?

Just as an fyi, I pulled the baffles out of one set I still have and I couldn't imagine how the heck one would ever get those baffles back in with that much packing around them, they were tight!

Yep...I was going for as close to whisper quiet as these pipes will get. I looked at the baffle material through the holes that were drilled and it is carboned up pretty good. I figured it couln't hurt to repack them.

Ahhhh...it is winter again and time for reflection and a new "Bucket List"! I guess I should review last years list first...

1. front brakes rebuilt and restored !
2. brake lines still on the list
3. have the front master kit so that is still on this years list
4. OEM regulator working fine after I replaced the battery - Mosfett off the list!
5. AGM battery was a great investment! (Highly recommended)
6. I......cut the rotors?.......Naw......Ebay for used ones....worked out fine!
7. LED brake light still on this years list
8. Repacked with new baffles (nice and quiet now!)
9. still want the mirrors

New this year:

- maybe a front tire, (I only have 16,158 miles on it though)
- Still have to do the rear calipers (although the '81 caliper on there is working) Just want it to match the rest of the '82
- Funds are low so I might only be able to wash the bike and ride! :moped:

So.....what is on your bucket list??

Its a whole new winter now.The move last winter went well,(TRhanks to two men and a truck) and the barn is taking shape all insulated and such.
Now I just need to learn to finsh a project before buying another.
The 500 cafe is finished and a great bike to ride.
The wing needs fork seals AGAIN.Left side this time.It seems every other year one side or another leaks, and I do both.
I have disassembled the 400F to touch up the frame paint, recover the seat, replace the rusty muffler, repaint the engine polish the chrome a little better...Mostly cosmetic stuff.
And know I dragged home the 900F which I am doing my best to ignore untell I catch up.
