    backfire

    Thanks Dan, I believe the rear pickups are a drop the motor out to inspect/replace procedure? My igniters have had the tar insulation melted off but are still working, could they be intermittently failing? the motor runs strong when "on the gas" but idle and steady cruise is when I get most of...

    backfire

    OK I am no mechanic and need some help here, back-fireing up through the carb is a product of poor carb synchronization/balance? can it be anything else? idles nice other than a "pop" back through carbs every 2-3 seconds. any help would be appreciated

    Brake calipers

    Can anyone tell me if front calipers from an 81-83 bolt right up to an 80? single piston calipers really are weak, I'm used to sportbike brakes with serious power and I feel unsafe with these weak units and the 81-83 have at least twin piston calipers. I was going to get braided lines and try...

    leaking valve cover gaskets GL1100

    to me it makes sense that the rubber "cones" have hardened and shrunk hence applying less pressure to the cover and gasket causing a poor seal, I put some O rings behind cones between cone and outside washer so the washer applied more pressure to the rubber cone in turn tightening the seal of...

    Valve cover bolts

    I actually tried adding O rings behind the rubber "cones" and that seems to have worked but it's kinda "hack", don't want this bike to be mickey rigged at all if I am gonna ride it hundreds of miles away from home, I want to be confident in getting back home, an uneventful trip is a good trip.....

    Valve cover bolts

    Anyone have a source for valve cover bolts? all 8 of mine are shot and the rubber "cones" wont apply enough pressure to gaskets to seal them completely,or should I just use gasket sealer, it's a shame cuzz the gaskets are new.

    return to idle

    Just got my bike started for the first time (for me) after doing a full carb rebuild, got it to idle smoothly at about 8-900 rpms but when I blip throttle it takes about 3-4 seconds to come back down to idle. my thoughts are that it's rich and I need to screw in idle mixture screws, am I on the...
