i like it good enough...... glad to keep the chrome full fender ....and get better tires for the gravel roads here ... cant wait to try it :thanks:

Joe be careful when you hit the dirt
The skinny tall ( 110 x19) front wheel on the Rats Nest is much better in the dirt than the wider (120 x17) on the CBRs IMHO. The 19" front reminds me more of a dirt bike wheel. Maybe as you have the same rake ( same bike) it may not be as noticeable the differences in the dirt as with my situation ( dreaded driveway has heaps of rocks and bumps as well  )

tony been on one ride went ok ...it sure handles the gravel better ...rode strait no hands too .. actually better than before ...seems all i need is a spacer and speedo cable ... and a new tire soon ... but at least i will be buying a tire i want instead of what i have to .....i will be careful in the dirt when it comes up tony :thanks:

When I ordered my new speedo cable Joe it came with your top end fitting, with my cable I was able to pull it off and salvage the bottom end fitting for my 81 Rats Nest and combine the new cable with the old fitting. The later cable was longer so I just have a big loop running in front of the radiator and so far it is all working well. Hopefully you can have as much luck and swap your cable ends out. Great to hear that your wider/smaller wheel is working well :good:

well went for ride today to try out 1200 wheel set up in final adjustment .....well this mod is totally a success ...hooch now sports a 1200 front wheel still dont have speedo hook up ended up distorying the 1200 speedo end trying to switch it over to 1000 cable ...cant win them all some dumb hands going on there .....

anyway some cool things came to light on the ride .... hooch can be a handful in first gear today i decided after checking wheel for soundness ... i ws going to put some power on in the dreaded first gear ...in a safest way i could ....so so let the clutch out all the way stayed down in the rpm ....then applied power then dug into secondary ...hooch imediately broke traction with ease rpm jumped and smelt rubber instantly .... got off of it right then .... the cool thing was ...that the little bit of lowering the 1200 wheel did ...took a lot of the chassie jacking away from hooch ....instead of instantly fish tailing before with the taller 1000 wheel on ....

one thing for sure hooch is one of those power plants that needs no help what so ever to brake traction ... all right there in throttle from idling along up ... what a thrill that was :lust: :hihihi: :thanks:

yes it seems to be id say 30% better ... the 1200 wheel is totally more stable in ride feel on road too ....its a extreme success it seems and this tire is really almost done also

you know i get PM all the time from people amazed that i made something work ... when they had chances to get something and were told by the know it alls it cant be done ..... and they end up passing on the deal .... no one knows it all and especially the ones who havnt even tried .... it has happen to me before ... but i have grown to a point that i know going with the know it alls just kills projects and possibilities...... the averages are with the doers who dont lend there ear to be wrench on by the know it alls

oh i guess i should add it was about fitting 1200 wheel ...so this is not off topic

i was told that to use the 1200 front end on my 81 1100 that i need to use the 1200 gauges....that the 1100 wont fit

then applied power then dug into secondary ...hooch imediately broke traction with ease rpm jumped and smelt rubber instantly ....

sooo, the 1200 has a lower first gear ratio??

yes ...especially hook up to a 1000 final drive like hooch is at the moment ....hooch is able now to rum with any final drive set up that honda made for the oldwings ....83 100s through all the 1200s yrs have the best gear spread honda put in oldwings .... your 81 1100 has rather low first gear only 82 is lower in stock version but thats only cause the wheel is 1" smaller ...but the 80-81 have a rather low fifth gear too ...the lowest geared oldwing motors without the final drive involved is the 85 and later 1200 motors ...so hooch is set up with the lowest first gear you can put together and the spread of gearing to fifth is wide and a lot taller than like your 81 1100 ... but there all within 1000 rpm of each other in the biggest of differences ....

i really dont like 5th, i think its to low at hiway speeds. BUT i can cruise along in 5th at 30, twist the throttle and go without down shifting...Ok back to the topic

finally got ride in with shinko tour master front ..130 90 16 ... absolutly fabulous move for hooch ...cant wait to get rear tire and set up for the 16" rear wheel and 1100 final drive.......

recipe for 1200 wheel on 1000 75-77 forks ....1100 axle ... as it provided a bit more distance from wheel to fork than 1000 ... 1000 axle nut as thei is a have to deal with 1000 75-77 forks ..they are wider....one washer shim on speedo side of wheel ....fender is another deal all together ...not sure there what i am going to do....

i am sure 78-79 1000 forks would be different mods as would 1100 forks ...as there is small differences in all set ups and margin of working are right are small .....

next for this set up i think will be custom joedrum fork brace and fender deal ... i plan on have a fantastic stout front forks to rival anything out there now in new bikes with 30yr plus old forks .... :thanks:
