This issue seems to be the opposite of most start up smoke issues. I get no smoke at start-up then left side wont stop smoking at all when engine reaches temperature. grayish white smoke. Head gasket was just replaced. issue started immediately at first start up. I put white paper towel over left exhaust and it was perfectly dry. Coolant stays full. Engine runs good and fast. Took out on freeway ran great. Got off smoke was pouring out the left side. Once smoke starts it doesn't stop. HELP

So no smoke until it's warmed up....

How long have you run it?
Could it be burning oils that got into the exhaust while working on it?
That can take a good 15-20 minutes to burn out and clear up.

Another thought is if the oil got contaminated with coolant or gas making it thinner then it could pass the rings but only once the engine has expanded enough to do so?
Fresh oil in it?

I have run it about 5 freeway miles. Has fresh oil and filter. fresh water pump and coolant. Previously sat for 5 years. No smoke til engine starts to warm up then wont stop left side only.

Welcome from Southern California!

Did you run it before the repairs were done? Same issue? What does the exhaust smell like? When you say the coolant stays full, are you removing the radiator cap to check it, or looking at the overflow bottle?

I just bought the bike a month ago and it did not run. Had blown head gasket on left side with coolant in the oil. smoke smells bad not sweet. engine hadn't run in 5 years

Could also be old oil in the exhaust from the head gasket issue and just needs to be burnt out, if not a sticky oil control ring

Maybe with ATF added to the fuel and possibly some in the oil as well. It won't fix a damaged ring but it could help a stuck one.

Coolant in the oil was probably from the water pump you replaced, not a head gasket. I'd ride for an hour or so, keeping an eye on the temperature gauge. +1 on possible oil or ? in the exhaust headers or muffler. You could run it without the exhaust hooked up and see what comes out...

I'm guessing you have something in the exhaust taking a while to burn off. Let us know if dropping the header stops the smoke.

I vote for oil in the exhaust that was left over. If oem exhaust thent there is a baffel between head pipe at the muffler can. I would bet the fiberglass is soaked with oil , also could be some in head pipe. If plugs are dry and oil and coolant are good then just run it and see if it clears up. may take some time.

cracked ring would typically be oposite. seals when hot.

How did the Cyl walls look when u pulled the head? Did you run piston up and down to see whole wall?
