First video made testing the Vivitar Action Cam. As you can see the weather conditions were not outstanding but I think it did a great job considering the conditions. The vid is posted on my youtube channel, push the button on my profile. Later.

Got it yesterday evening, spent two hours getting it out of the box, seemed like, downloaded the manual cause the paperwork in the box wasn't much punkin. It is BLACK so Suzy hasn't been sissified, yet. Stayed up till 3 am figuring it out. I like it, seemed to be of good quality. Took some photos and made a couple of videos around the house and it does a good job so far. The true test will be rolling videos with it mounted on the bike. So far the only thing I'm not happy with is the LCD screen cannot be seen in the sunlight and the remote only turns the unit off, not on. Working on places to mount it on the bike for testing.
See if there is a pixel shift for the display, That would make it easier to see in sunlight.

Great first outing with your new camera Mike. Can you post a picture of your mounted camera, I am still trying to figure out the chrome bracket in the top of the frame. :good:

The camera is attached to the top of the engine guard, had to remove the lower fairing on that side, still working out how to use the mounts that came with it. The chrome piece in the vid is the driving light mount bar minus the lights. I was trying to use it to mount the camera on but haven't got it to work out like I want yet. You would think on a gold wing there would be umpteen dozens of perfect places to mount one of these but I haven't found them yet.

I am using this style of mount(10mm) for my mirror atm with the CBR master cylinder. You may be able to use these on your crash bars, light mount or handle bars. The only problem with the bars is the movement through the fairing when you are steering. I like my iPhone through the screen except I have the reflection of the white USB cord in the video, I am getting a black USB cord and will come up through the base of the mount.

How long can one record? Looking for my ride to and through Alaska.
All depends on what you want to spend on SD cards and batteries. Power and amount of memory is everything.

*Not sure where my other post went, wtf? That camera position in the video is one of my favorites, nice riding country too bad the roads kinda suck.

~O~

I put a 16gb card in it and when I got through recording on that run, it was 21 minutes long, then edited down to that 3+ minutes. I haven't tested to see how long it takes to fill a 16gb card. I bought an adapter for the cig. lighter that I can plug my phone and the camera into to recharge the batteries. Trust me you don't want to try to upload a 20 min. video to youtube, so you need to use a vedeo editor to cut it down before publishing it.

Yeah, Randy, those are county rural roads around my house, amazing the one that looks the worse near the end is a state hwy. :smilie_happy:

Tony, I may end up having to fab the mount I'm looking for, don't quite trust a couple of those that came with it but bits a pieces off them can make a good mount I believe. I don't want to shoot thru the shield so I'm thinking about coming off the two mirror mount bolts with a bracket that would have unobstructed view and pretty good height to shoot from. That would make it easier to see whats going on with the camera, I've already made one twenty mile run and camera wasn't even on. :Doh2:  :whistling:

I know what you are saying about needing to know what the camera is doing as I went through that with my old GoPro and have a lot of inverted footage. With the new white hero3 I am happy with it mounted on my helmet as I use the iPhone app that allows you to see what the camera sees and check that it is all good. It also allows you to change all settings and view battery life and memory available.

Tony, here's a couple of pics of (camera position one) you requested.

UPDATE: Vivitar action cam bites the dust, Already had issues with one of mounts being broken when I opened the package, the HDMI cable end coming off and staying in the camera, the LCD touchscreen was being slow to respond. Yesterday the camera locked up with a file error message displayed and nothing worked one it, would not even turn off. It ran the battery down, I recharged it and it appeared to work for a second then it shut itself off. Now I've attempted to stuff it all back in the box and am returning it to the local Walmart to see what they intend to do about it. Will advise the outcome.
