Otay...I been fightin a loosing battle with my PC. I give up. Can't get my printer to work..

I've tried everything...installing from disc, Winders update, HP driver d-load... nada..nuttin works. I've uninstalled, plugged into a different USB port, everything. The puter SEES the printer, and tries to install the print driver, but it fails every friggin time. I CAN scan from the printer to the puter, but dang thing will not print anything. I have also tried to "restore to earlier date", but it will NOT complete the service....keep getting error messages. NONE of my AV programs has turned up any malware/virus, but that don't mean I ain't caught something. Dang printer was working fine just a couple of weeks ago, but I don't really use the print function all that much.

So....I'm about to wipe this turd(already done a complete backup to external drive), and restore to factory. Here's my question...I already have Winders 10 dloaded, but not installed. Should I go ahead and install Win10, OR....should I wipe this turd and start over with Win7? Whatever I do, Imma gunna do it tomorrow....I'm tired of jacking with this thing.

Here's info on the HP machine I have, if it helps.

I think you just need a new printer Joel. Win 10 didn't have the drivers for my newer Brother laser printer. How old is that printer?

~O~

Printer is fairly new...it came with the system when I bought it...in 2010.... :hihihi:
So...if it is a PRINTER problem, why will the driver not install by any method? Why can I not restore to an earlier date?
I had a similar issue a couple years ago, and I wound up just wiping the drive and re-installing the original set-up via the partition, and all was well.....until about a week ago. Something has infected this turd....I'd just as soon start over. Just not sure if I wanted to try to install Win 10 first, and see if that would solve the issues, or if I should wipe it, and re-install the original setup, then install Win 10 at a later date... :headscratch:

oh...I've attempted the HP helpline before...sorry, but I'm not in the mood to be treated like a 2 year old by someone that barely speak engrish. "Are you SURE the machine is plugged in? Ok...turn it off, and turn it back on....is it on now?" :Doh2: :head bang:

I have one computer that won't add any devices. No printer, scanner not even an optical mouse. I think I'm going to try linux.

Well first off I can't help with the printer. I've had too damn many headaches myself with them.
I switched to laser and will never go back to inkjet. Good lasers can be had for decent $ now.

As for installing 10, if you're going the free 'upgrade' route you can't just use the download you got to fresh install (unless something changed on that in the last couple days).
You must first install 10 as an upgrade to your licensed copy of windows 7 or 8.1.
After that, your install of 10 is activated and a machine identifier (sent to Microsoft) is used to 'link' that 10 install to your specific machine. After that, you can reinstall 10 fresh since the identifier then talks to Microsoft to activate the fresh 10 install.

I have been trying to get 10 working without freeze ups on my computer since the 29th. No luck.
I think something on my motherboard isn't playing nice with 10 so I've given up on this machine for awhile.
My wife's computer running 10 runs beautiful, so does my brother's so 10 does work, just not on my computer..

I might have an answer for you! HP had issues with drivers for Windows 7. Sometimes, you have to download the driver for Windows Vista first (often the driver the printer is written for). Install the printer with the Vista driver and then Win 7 will find the correct Win 7 driver.

(Been here too many times before!!) :whip:

This is kinda off topic but the Win 10 upgrade keeps popping into these conversations. After I installed 10 I ran my registry cleaner and it found over 329 registry anomalies, the program calls them errors but I think they are just junk left behind after the upgrade. Since it was a significant number you may want to run a program like that to tidy the registry.

:thanks: That's what I was wanting to know. If I reinstall Win 7 first, then I wouldn't have the 10 available. So....I shall make an attempt to install 10 first, and see what happens. If it doesn't work out, then I'll wipe and start over. Off I go! :laptop:

Not gunna allow me to do it....whatever is messin wid this puter is keeping Win 10 from installing. I tried to do the upgrade, and it appeared to be doing it, but once it re-started, it was the same Win7 with errors for the upgrade. NOW....it's downloading Win 10 AGAIN. :head bang:

Gotta be something screwy in the registry I think. Unpleasant as it is I'd still contact HP or maybe mikeysoft to fix it.

ive heard windows 10 it nothing more than a way to get rid of windows 7 witch is much better for the user ... windows 10 is much better for the worthless ...so i want nothing to do with it

Win 10 FINALLY installed....had some boo-boos along the way. Haven't had time to mess with much yet, but....my friggin printer WORKS now. As Randy mentioned, it DID have to install the drivers for Win 8/8.1. So.....in the end, my printer problem WAS caused by the Win 10 d-load, even tho I had not yet installed the program. What a pita. Now I get to go thru and re-set all of my stuff, and make it look the way I want it...
Still not 100% sure all is well, but I'll keep playing, and see what happens. Thanks for the help and encouragement fellers.... :thanks: :thanks: :clapping:
