Joel did you opt out of all the features at the beginning of the install?
Yeah I did....all the windows spyware

:headscratch: WHuuuu??? I saw no "features" that were optional? No matter....I had to wipe it anyway, and start over. WIN 10 weren't werkin very well fer me. Locked up all the time. So...I just did a clean restore from the partition. In the process of re-installing all my other programs/data. Sure glad I did a backup to an external HD...soooooo much easier than doin the disc thang. And get this...printer is still werkin! :yahoo:
I may eventually try Win 10 later, since Dan mentioned his update worked better with a fresh 7 install.

Mama's berfinday today, so I gotta get this puter thing wrapped up and see what SHE has planned fer tuhday.... :Doh2:

Yeah the "features" are there on install as on and off switches.
They say things like "this info will be shared with Microsoft" and such.
I turned them ALL off.

But anyway, as far as my freezing goes in 10....I've been playing with it off and on by disabling onboard stuff and removing add in cards. I think I nailed it down to a USB issue with a printer that wouldn't install. I just tried today again trying to duplicate the problem then I saw the printer installed successfully! Then I went to the printer site and found there's a new Windows 10 64 bit category that wasn't there yesterday. It seems it's just taking some time for the hardware vendors to write 10 compatible drivers and software.
For now I'll wait for a few months before upgrading my main system to 10.
It seems they are doing a good job getting the updates out but I have to make sure everything I have to run is updated first.

MS is tellin me now that my puter doesn't qualify for the free Win 10 upgrade..... :smilie_happy:

Well I pulled the trigger again....backed up my 7 install to another drive and did the upgrade again.

So far from yesterday install/upgrade 10 is running great.
There must have been some updates that fixed the freezing I was getting and so far I'm really liking 10.

In windows 10 there is a spinning icon while anything loads just like in windows but the 10 spinner thing is larger and irritating to me, it appears much too often on my fast computer.

I found this reference which has reduced that spinner to nearly never appearing.
So far I haven't experienced any problem doing this.

Disable DirectWrite in Google Chrome.

So it's just not me, give me a progress bar or % indicator any day. I feel like the spinning is just trying to hypnotise me into forgetting how slow the process is actually. :head bang:

Along the same lines, I have a question. Didn't sign up for 10 upgrade, but noticed for the last 2 weeks that the windows update is trying to install 10 & each time it fails, is this something to worry about or leave it alone. Not really interested in upgrading, like Win 7 platform, nice & stable

I'm pretty sure you had to have reserved your upgrade for it to be trying to upgrade. At least it was that way for me.
After I cancelled my reserve upgrade, it stopped doing that.

I got it downloaded, after FINALLY getting all of the 600+ "important updates" after restoring my machine. It dloaded fine, but I haven't actually installed it yet. BUT.....Windows Update shows that it tries to install everyday, and fails, even tho I have not actually told it to. I think that's what it did before, also, but once I actually told it to install, it did so with no problems.
I noticed that the FAQ section at Microsoft now says you only have ONE MONTH to revert back to your previous version of windows if you don't like Win 10. That's NOT what they said before. Originally, what I saw was that you could turn it back at any time. :headscratch:

Thank you, I thought I looked there, but I'll double check
Follow up, everywhere I look there is no cancel, the only thing I get is 'reserve your WIN 10. I give, it sounds like the thing knows I haven't reserved a copy, but every day it shows a failed attempt, I just hope it doesn't succeed :)

Where would the cancellation be? This AM I was looking for something like that.
You need to go into system in the control panel then updates then delete updates then delete kb3035583 this will stop those blasted pop ups and remove it from your tool bar.
BTW..it will ask to restart before this takes effect, click yes.
