looks great and yes the noise is rattleing on the plexiglass can the cam be moved a little further back in the case so there is more space between it and the plexiglass. and styrofoam will make a sqweeking noise. I would think foam rubber would be best as it makes no noise. just a thought. also wood would make a thumping sound. :hi: :hi:

Oh, I see.
The front plexiglass is attached to the aluminum case with rubber double-sided mounting tape so I don't think it is the cause for the rattle. The top lid for camera access is attached to the case with black marine vinyl + velcro but inside they touch each other so I think that's the cause. I will put sheet rubber inbetween. The tripod also needs to be rubber mounted. If the rattle is still there after all these, I will make a new case with form rubber or something.

I think I like the camera for it's size and simplicity. Good clear picture when facing away from the sun. Would be nice if it could handle the bright light a little better. Is there a lens hood available for it? Or how hard would it be to make a lens hood? I see a lot of lens flare right in the center of the picture. A lens hood would offer some shade to deal with that. But it looks like a good little camera for the price. Heck, this ain't Hollywood.
I wonder why you're having trouble getting AVI into WMM? I import AVI into WMM on a whim. I don't recall ever having any problem with AVI.

Foam rubber covers a multitude of rattles.
Thanks, and keep up the good work.

The menu system is so easy to understand. 1-1/2" LCD monitor screen really helps. No need for the manual.

Can the flare be caused by the plexiglass in front of it? I will try it without the enclosure. The video was taken in the evening so the sun was really low. It was difficult even for human eyes to see things. Auto exposure seemed to be working really quickly.

Since this is 170 degree wide angle lens, I guess the hood should be really big. Then the enclosure needs to be big also. Or I guess the hood can be mounted outside of the enclosure.

DivX player tells that the AVIs taken use MPEG-1 Layer 2 (mp2) audio codec. Whereas ordinary (?) AVI uses PCM audio. There are so many video/audio codecs out there and aparently WMM doesn't support all of them. This freeware Avidemux comes with lots of codecs.

Interestingly Windows Media Player can play back this AVI so I guess for playing and editing you need different flavor of the same codec. Read-only vs. Read-write.

Probably worth the price of admission right there!

It's a reflection of the light off the glasses in the lens. All you can do about it is either turn away from the light source, or shade the glass from the light. Beyond than it gets into the angle of the glass and the way it's been ground. Not much you can do about that, short of trying another lens. Wide angle lenses seem to be more prone to this problem. I find that a polarizing filter helps a lot to reduce lens flaring. But the camera you're useing is probably not threaded for filters?

There are always gonna be some times when it just can't be helped. And you'll probably very seldom be riding directly into the low sun for any length of time, so personally, I don't think I'd worry too much about it. I really do like the brightness and the color of the picture that wasn't facing direct sunlight. You got me thinking about trying to sell this GoPro I have and put those funds towards the thing you got. Seems it might be easier and better.

Come to think of it, I always use Pinnacle when I upload from the camera into the computer. There's no doubt some converting going on there as Pinnacle auto saves the clips into an avi file to be played back.

No, DriftX170 doesn't have threads for attaching a filter.

I finally figured out what WMM likes. Video MPEG-4 AVC, Audio MP3. If I use Avidemux to save AVI with these codecs, WMM can open it. Then I created my first "master piece" (LOL) with captions and background music.

After the upload, I noticed a link "View copyright info" added next to the video. It says that the video cannot be accessed in Germany due to the copyright for the music I used. But no action is necessary on my part.

I guess the copyright already expired in the US.
