Got the engine bolted back in place. Tube for the canister took a while to get it right. Finally got the fuel filter in the correct place after 2 years just sitting there. Shift pedal, 1 crash bar back in place.

Now gotta tackle the alternator, putting carbs on, placing the new spark plug wires in place, air cleaner, and putting all my wiring back on( heated grips, clothes plug, tender plug, alternator plug)

If I stay up half tonight- I might hear it run hopefully Wednesday.

It ran good before this c5 install I sure as heel hope it runs better after all this. I sure would not do it again. I do not think I'd encourage others to do it unless they have an engine problem or clutch problem to begin with.

Will let you kow how it goes.

With the ignition so buried inside these engines, you guys all need some kind of tattoo or "superbowl" ring to let others know you've been initiated into the club. I'm not sure I'd tackle that job. I've parted out Wings, but that easy. Putting them back together is the tough part.

I'd probably cheat and install the GL1000 kit with a cam...that would have been much easier. Wilcoy I give you two thumbs up for tackling this job!!

:eek:k:

Pulling engines and props out of multi-million dollar aircraft is hard... Pulling engines from thousand dollar bikes is fun! :smilie_happy:

Worked on it until 4:30 this am.
The problem I am having is nothing is lining up. The left muffler did not want to go back on, that same side crash bar would not go on. I think I bent my shifter putting the crash bar back on. When I satarted to take the nut off from the frame bar that removes I noticed it would not go back together so I did not take the nut completely off. It has been this way all the way through. Nothing wants to line up.

Hope it all shakes out when the bike runs again.

With the new coils- I put the connection facing the right of the bike (sitting on it)
Now I am concerned that the plug to the coils and wires will be just above the rad cap and overflow. Should this be a concern and should I turn the coils around ? There is a lot more stuff on the left side. I did turn the coils around this pm.

Paul to verified which wire goes where on the coils to the spark plugs.

All that is left to do is: Trace all my wires to make sure everything is where it should be,( trickle charger-heated coat,grips,gloves-wires), make sure the clutch cable, antennae wires etc...is in the right place.

Cut the spark plug wires and put the caps on,put the air claener box etc back together.
too tired to do the rest tonight-so tomorrow-----

I GET TO START THE BIKE UP--HOPEFULLY IT RUNS.

Well talked to Paul--

He told me to close off the vacuum hose. I did. Turned key on --crank crankk.
He said to take spark plugs out and see if spark--no spark--
He started talking about the red hot wire-- I gasped- I hooked it up to my 2nd fuse box and forgot to put a fuse in that slot. Put spark plugs back in-he is still on the phone--

Turned key on--It is like a frankenstein -IT CAME TO LIFE-- RUN--RUN -- RUN--HIT KILL SWITCH---

RUN --RUN--RUN--

PAUL ASKED IF i WENT THROUGH THE ORIGINL coil leads-no I did not--that is why it won't shut off.

Finally got it killed.

He heard the fourth gl1100 in the world to start using the c-5.

Thank ALL of you for the support of my adventure.
Now Old Betsy has 2 new adventures over her tires.

1) alternator conversion
2) c-5 ignition

Not sure yet as I have not ridden it yet. Have to change the wire to the original coil plug so the bike will shut off. Have to burp the rad yet, and get my hitch secured before I go on the road.

Right now I am thrilled it started and very tired.

We used to joke about people calling the dealership and asking to listen over the phone to their bike.....
BUT I was never so happy that Wes called, and even more thrilled when I heard his bike fire up.

Thank you for letting me share in your success. You did it man!! Sleep good tonight.
