I recently Purchased a 1982 GL 1100 A for $650.00 after installing a used engine from a 1981 GL 1100 and going through the usual clean ups aka carbs, fuel tank, brakes, electrical and new tires Im getting sooty plugs it turns out there are subtle differences between 81 and 82 carbs ! O yea,the bike runs Great but idles high and then lopes and tries to stall at red lights I'm changing the Jet needles 55's with some thicker ones I have from my GL500's 53's and might have to change the low speed jets from .35 to.30's, Does anyone know if the accelerator pump feeds all 4 cylinders or just the #3 I found It was stuck open and wondering if that could cause a rich condition at all four cylinders ?

yes i think it could  but theres something else going on to maybe

like float neendles ...floats set wrong ....as far as the motors go there the same accept for grearing ....the 1100 carbs when right are the best for oldwings IMHO

Thanks for the input I will re check the float height and needles I am also using the springs from the GL500 for the vacuum pistons in the carb's they are a little stronger so the pistons should drop faster and seat better I will let you know how it works. I got lucky and the air cut valves were the same so that saved me $90.00

Ok, So I did some more research and it turns out the engine for the 1982 GL1100 Aspencade I bought is a 1983 :) but the 1982 had a few more changes from the 1981, like different Plugs NGK DPR8EA-9 gaped at .030 instead of NGK DR8ES-L gaped .024-.028 and the made some changes to the carbs to !Anyway I got the carbs back on It is running better but still rich and I cant get the Idle air screws set right unless they are screwed in all the way does anyone know if the 1982 GL1100A carbs are supposed to have rubber plugs installed at the slow Jet ? I herd the missing plugs can cause the over rich problem.

My 1100 has rebuilt carbs needle valves ,o rings, gackets, pilot jets, seats etc Irebuilt these because or burning so rich my cloths stink and now it it still stinks and black smoke these carbs were professionally done any suggestion
