Wow, someone is going to really enjoy that bike. Well I got my first surprise. Not sure if it's good or bad but the bike is a 1980 not an 1981. We'll find out if there are anymore fun surprises as we go. Thanks a lot For all the work you'll be doing.

typical 1980-81 sparkers LOL.... i got a 80 i havnt work on much in the same condition
Anything better about the 82-83 sparkers? Just wondering.
Looks like a good project there BYT..Looking forward to the progress.

they put a ballast resistor back on the ignition....80 -81 dont have one ..and the cooking began ....all 82-83 1100s had them put back on the coils and the sparkers did much better

this is one reason to check for this if you have an old Tube in your reserve tank.I found this broke tube this morning. I rolled it outside and I pressure washed the bike, let it dry, and took it back inside. I have drained the water from the radiator ( only got 2 quarts out of it) and the oil -which was had that gas smell also. Yeah..the carbs have to be checked for sure and probably rebuilt.

Anyone can work on these bikes provided they aren't blindfolded at the time :head bang: :smilie_happy:

...Now Mark knows why the oil was leaking really bad on that right side.....OOps is right, and i sure ain't kidding Joe....i seen that gasket sticking out when i was looking at the oil dripping from it while the head was still on it.... ....Hey Steve83..i'm not a professional...i make mistakes....or at least that's what my wife says to me.... :hihihi: ..the next pic is from the left head, this is not from the head gasket that i took off...somebody forgot to clean the old gasket out of the water port.
